Make sure your out of contract.

With myself I go over the limit over Xmas , Easter when on holidays. However over the year it cheaper than paying for a more expensive package.

You need a cable or phoneline broadband with unlimited broadband.

The xbox can use up to a gb an hour depending on what you are doing so you will have to look at upc or eircom probably.

All the mobile ones are restricted to a maximum data allowance a month which probably wont suit you.

I thought giffgaff was unlimited data? My brother has it and wouldn't change, been thinking of changing to it myself

As far as i know giffgaff removed their unlimited data last september but i could stand corrected on that.

There are websites such as uswitch which will compare the various packages for you. Check them out.

Upc have a package with unlimited usage but their new box doesn't have the range of their old one. However it's great for streaming, gaming etc

Moved from UTV to UPC just over a year ago, landline to cable and have never looked back. No complaints so far with cost/service/speed or download limits.

Can recommend uswitch.ie which shows you a comparison between all providers. You need a unlimited download package

Do you mind me asking who did you get it with. I looked at a few satellite providers and they had tiny limits.

I've been with UPC for quite a while now and found the actual broadband service excellent but if anything goes wrong they are not known for their customer service

generally, domestic users don't need more than 50mbps. I think a lot of people are paying for something they don't even use or need.

That's true but my use is a little bit more than domestic.

UPC drops connection too much and kills active games. No good for gaming if it continues to do that. Checked about and seems to be a constant issue. New modem is pretty poor too

The speed is good but not consistent.

Like a lot of factors for this technology it can depend on the location. So far I've not had any problems when I need full throttle with UPC.

If u are stuck in a contract with ur current provider there is a way around that without any penalties . If u are not getting the speed u are promised on contract . U just have to say u are recording the call and want to cancel ur contract due to not receiving ur speed and if the don't cancel u will be getting on to com reg . Works nearly every time I do it for customers all the time with broadband and tv issues
