Tricky one......we were allowed a glass of wine at Christmas at dinner from about 15.….but not sure if that would work now…just think there's far too much drinking now a days so may not be a good idea to encourage it |

"Sure they will do it outside of home anyway from probably 14 ish. . . By letting them have a few drinks they might get to know their own limits . . ."
Which is exactly what was done with me as a teenager.it was all so controlled and safe.after I got battered I never did it again.my parents brought me to the pub and they controlled how much I drank. So I will be doing the same with mine if they do wish |

I never went knacker drinking, I'd prefer my teen to be safe in a house. If make any parents of other teens aware of it myself (as in no "oh bonnie me mammy said its ok") |

Its proven that the earlier kids drink the more likely they are to have a drink problem. Letting them drink at home "to find their own limits" is just asking for trouble
so at least the legal age limit but even later if possible.

I had my first drink (at home) when I was about 12 or 13, a glass of booze for new years.. After that if there was was a house party I could have one or two bottles at most
Years later I've no drinking problem, barely drink of I'm honest :L |

We have never encouraged our kids to drink at all ,think they get enough encouragement from media and friends.Think they will all try it at some stage as right of passage but we wouldn't allow them until the legal limit at least |

I was allowed drink at young age or have sip to see if I like it, mainly family meal Sunday.
I never drank in garden shed, hiding in garden/bedroom with friends etc
I don't have a drinking problem nor did I ever steal it to go drinking outside.
Id prefer my kid to say can i have a small glass of wine or try cocktail then go out lose control, over do it, fuck liver or potentially no be able to say no or run when d*unk outside & end up loosing virginity way to early in unsafe way.
Main land does little wine with so they get taste & feel big without it being a lot getting rid of mystery & need to rob drink |

For every 1 person who says their parents let them sip drink with them at young age and they don't have a drink problem,id say there is thousands of ppl in same boat who are now alcoholics.
It has been proven the earlier kids drink, with parents or friends, the more likely they are to have drink problem
anyway kids are more influenced by what they see rather than what you say to them
my kids are young teens and have only seen me drink once
if your drinking infront of them at home from young age its more likely they will want to try it earlier |

Its all personal choice at the end of the day.I will be doing what was done with myself and my Brothers and sisters because it worked.we respected our limits as teenagers. We seen others drinking in fields and whatever and we just thought it was dumb. |

I have to say I'm lucky I have a nearly 18 yr old daughter and she is too much into health and fitness and does not drink any alcohol. She tried wine but says does not like alcohol.
So I'm lucky in that way.
But I know people that allow there teenages to drink under there supervision. Rightly or wrongly we can't be around teenages 24-7
All we can do is advise them on drink awareness. |

I think everyone has personal experiences from the effects of alcohol,But I have let my kids sip a bit of wine,or beer since they were about 12 or 13,they are now 23 and 18 and have absolutely no interest in drinking, they go out with friends and one beer a night does them,I truly believe it's the don't touch syndrome that will make them want it more..

And even the parents that don't drink etc kids will still try it. No matter I have a uncle and aunt that don't drink and now both kids in there twentys are regular drinkers.
I have a uncle that is a alcoholic and both kids refuse to drink cause they have seen the effects due to there dad. |

I too agree with hal to a certain extent and yes statistic's prove the younger you drink the more likely you are to become alcohol dependent but I believe its unsupervised drinking that is the problem...every town and village has a den where the kids go drinking everyone in the community knows about it but nothing is done ...that and the availability of cheap alcohol I think is the problem |

"Up to yourself and how responsible you think your teenager is . Personally I wouldn't till 16 . Don't have children though but that's what I think now "
I've three sons and you're right, responsible in moderation from 16 is fine. |

You as a parent are the example, if you only drink a beer now and then, it is ok. In Austria-Germany has the glass of beer tradition which does not mean that you drink 5 bottles every day or everyday shalt thou be d*unken.Young people should learn the responsible dealing with such beverages. That's it ...
I dont think that you d*unk with 16 just Milk |
