Okay, without Google, so probably all wrong
-grass (and all plants) are green either to help with photosynthesis or as a result of it
-the sky is blue due to the way the sun's light is shown through the various gasses in the atmosphere
-water is transparent; except in massive volumes when it is actually green (thanks QI), this Is then added to the blue that is reflecting from the sky to give the ocean it's green/blue colors
Feel free to prove me wrong but it sounds legit :D |

Sounds legit enough.
What also baffles me is who decided that
"Green" is "green". And what if I see colours differently, could I be looking at "green" grass that actually looks blue to me??
My head hurts... |

Chlorophyll, the chemical which is used in photosynthesis has a green colour. By green, it means that light of all frequencies other than green wavelengths are absorbed and green light is reflected. Cf a prism
The sky appears blue because of light scattering in the upper atmosphere. The sun light interacts with the molecules and is scattered. This produces a blue colour.
Scattering is reasonably complex. If you're interested pm me and I'll explain more....
Yes I am a science geek! |
