was earlier awarded the Person of the Year Award.
What a journey this country has been on for the last 20 years. From a god forsaken country where people bowed down to the preachings of a homophobic, misogynist, paedophilic church to a place which is now secular and accepting of all people, straight, gay, bisexual and transgendered.
My brother is gay. I was physically abused by vile women cloaked in the garb on nunnery, physically abused because I was left handed and had speech impediment. He witness my abuse, but I unfortunately didnt witness his pain as he only came out as a gay man 5 years ago, 30 years spent hiding who he was because of what he thought was an abnormal existence.
Next year there will be a referendum on marriage equality. I beg that we all vote for a better Ireland, an Ireland where we can witness two women or two men say "I do", in the same meaningful way as we have witnessed many of our straight friends say those same words.
This is a once in a lifetime vote, that will allow my brother and his partners relationship to be recognised equally, along with all your siblings and friends who are in the same situation.
Yes my posts are in the main, doer and sullen, for that is what I have to contribute to this site. And yes, this thread will probably get lost in the euphoria and relative meaningless posts that will no doubt appear later today and for the next few days.
I ask of you one thing and that is to make sure you are all registered to vote and please vote for equality for all people of this country. And if you are a person who has religion in them, I applaud you and ask that you say a prayer to whatever god you believe in, that all relationships, this time next year, will be equal.
And finally, to quote Panti herself:
" For simply reading this, I thank you"
