So the other night we watched 'The Conjuring' & it got me wondering if all religions had exorcisms & subsequently made horror movies about the subject or is it just a Christian thing?

Do other religions have the equivalent of the devil and hell?

Yeah, thats what hubs said, said it's a Catholic invention as Protestants don't generally believe in the supernatural. That seems like a pretty broad sweep but maybe he's right.

sure possession and exorcism pre dates Christianity and most organised religion. Paganism is big on the whole process and exorcism itself and take different forms

Actually, the wikipedia page for "Exorcism_in_Christianity" (I know, I know, it's wikipedia.. pinch of salt and all that, but probably more founded than hearsay..) would beg to differ hat it's just a Catholic thing - there is mention of exorcism rites (if not specifically ordained exorcists) in Anglicanism, Baptists, Lutheranism, etc. etc.

Although I'm not religious, it's actually an interesting read..
