i was not there. . . Have always had to pay for water and a meter rent charge less the domestic allowance. . . I'm sure there are lots in this situation on what were once private water schemes originally paid for by the users that are like myself and are actually going to now pay less than before . . . |

I'm not often going to these protests but the sense of power with everyone there was fantastic. Felt like we could do anything, getting a bit stiff even thinking of it |

"I was there too hope u all sending your letters back if we all fight we dont have to pay for water i think it should be free was amazing see many people together.SAY NO TO WATER CHARGES " . It's a private contract like any institution as a consumer you have the right to choose to buy the product as things stand unless government pass legislation like they did for property tax they cannot acesss your pps number you are not obligated to buy or even entertain their. " offer". And being a private company what is actually stopping them selling up in a few years with your personal info to a foreign entity

Not sending it back means they have no contract and you have no obligation to deal with this company. A private company cannot take you to court if you have never had any dealings with them. |

Can't wait to see how this turns out Was i up protesting No, Do i want to pay this charge No! But like most things in life that you need you have to pay of whether its directly or indirectly!!
Get 2 weeks of dry weather and Dublin has a water shortage, lucky for me i dont live in Dublin But someone has to pay to supply water to the capital so should it be the user of the water??
Yes it is a fucked up time to introduce this charge and i do agree that sometime in the future Irish water will be sold to some foreign investment company.
I think there is alot of misinformation out there, my understanding is that to get your allowance you fill out your details on the pack sent out, if you don't want to get the free allowance don't send it back.
Yes i was one of them who protested over the property tax and instead of paying €50 ended up paying €200, my father protested over the septic tank charge instead of agreeing to pay €5 ended up being charged €50.
The government wants this charge and will railroad it down your neck, i do feel that in 10 months time i will be sitting on my free water allowance and all the people who didn't open there Irish Water pack will be left paying for every litre
Lets hope im wrong, but this is Ireland and nobody will stick together on this, one of two red letters and you will find people will comply, as they say divide and conquer. |

Thats your opinion and your entitled to it. However I think your underestimating the level of anger and intelligence of the people of Ireland. Sure some will be afraid and pay. Others think we absolutely have to, and we should just get on with it. Heres the thing tho..WE HAVE BEEN PAYING FOR OUR WATER FOR YEARS!!! Well over 1 billion paid so far!! Oh and Enda admitted we have before people say thats not true. Where did it go to? That money was enough to fix the current system, but its gone to Germany! And anyone who thinks that we are paying for "services"..all I can say is..good luck with that. Google 'Blue Gold' and see the real truth of the matter. Wake up and see where this is leading too. See whats happening in Chicago? Is that fair? Even if you can afford it now, you cant predict the future. Your kids could be victims of poverty or circumstance. Dont pay..im not.. |

I'm sorry if in someway i implied that people are not intelligent or anger enough to make it stick that was not my intention.
I know that people in Ireland have been paying water rates of years and still are as most farmers have their homes connected to there commercial supply, all businesses have to pay rates also.
All i can say is i hope the rates are quashed.
Would be great to fast forward 1 year from now and see what happens. |

I think in protest we should all run our taps 24/7.
Honestly the bull shit today from the campaigners saying that water is a human right. Well doh say that to millions of kids who don't have access to clean water while you guys literally want everything free and flush and flush.
I have no problem paying for a scarce commodity that is delivered safe and clean and the dirty stuff taken away.
As for the bull shit that fix it then charge sure why not say the same about petrol?
Another crowd who have a sense of entitlement for everything and accept no responsibility for anything.
Pay for something and you will respect it. |

I needed a good laugh ,thanks for that.
