Not fab related at all but I figured there's a better mix of people on here to advise!
Need a lap top.... no bloody clue about them at all.
Budget of £300, good processor compatible with gaming but also practical enough for studies, needs an optical drive with USB and preferably SD slots and a web cam.
Is it wishful thinking? I've been left with this task by my mother who wants to buy it for my younger sister....
Help me be a hero!!!

You simply won't get a "gaming" laptop for that budget  I have a mate who works with computers and he told me that laptops should not really be bought with gaming in mind as they are not really designed for that. £300 will actually only get you a low end machine that while it will do everything else you mention, will not be up for playing recent PC games at all. If your budget can be stretched a little look for a machine with an Intel i5 processor as they are a good mid range option and while again not really games machines will be able to at least cope with some of them.

Spank you! Will get a look after work, it's not really mega gaming it's needed for, just something that can cope a bit better than standard office requirements.

Don't bother with AMD at all - while they are ok they tend to run a bit warmer and heat + laptops us never good, my mate has a workshop full of old laptops that have all at some point over heated and became parts donors. also avoid Intel Celeron and Pentium processors as they are getting on a bit now unless they are dual or quad core variants but even then best stick with either an i3 or a cheaper i5 - minimum memory these days is 4GB and hard drive 500GB - screen size 15.6 is average (anything less is a pain in the eyes) Brand names are less important nowadays but if possible try to go for Acer or Asus |
