Mine updated quickly too although it's been acting up a bit since. We are so bloody dependant on our phones it's like losing a limb when they don't work.
Hope you get it sorted. |

when i hold down the buttons it just gives me the itunes symbol or the apple logo.
i cant take out the battery as there's no way to do it on iphones, although I have tried to take out the sim, and still just gives me the itunes symbol when its back in.
i think most of my stuff is backed up, not too concerned about it though, just want my phone to work!!
someone in Vodafone is gonna get a shock if they go noseying through my phone tomorrow |

your phone has gone into recovery mode, and for want of a better description, is essentially wiped right now.
it seems that the problem lies with either the phone, laptop cable or internet connection...the all need to work well to update/restore an iphone. try any or all of the following:
1. different cable
2. different laptop
3. redownload the iphone firmware using a better and more stable internet connection.
if after all that there's no change your phone will have to be repaired. |

Your phone is NOT in recovery mode and is certainly NOT wiped.
Ok here goes. What you need to do is:
1) hold the home button & power buttons down together. This will reboot the phone.
2) once the apple logo comes onscreen after the reboot you need to hold the up volume button until the apple logo fades a little. (This disables mobile substrate function) your iPhone should boot up.
3) once the phone has booted up fully, hold down the power button on the top of the phone until the "slide to power off" slider appears and slide to power off.
Then power up your phone the normal way and mobile substrate will reactivate and your phone should work normally again. If you are still running IOS 7.X.X then you will just have to reinstall IOS 8 again. It seems like the update did not install fully or was corrupted.
Personally I wont be updating to IOS 8 as my iPhone is jailbroken and there is no jailbreak for IOS 8 as of yet.
If your phone is not jailbroken or you dont know what a jailbreak is dont panic, just follow the steps I posted above.
Hope this helps |

Right work in tech industry and with this stuff everyday its not uncommon what the guy said earlier is about right and probably a way but here's how I do it
First make sure your I tunes is up to date
Then turn off iPhone
Hold the middle button untill Apple logo comes up
Continue to hold until connect to iTunes comes on screen
Connect to iTunes will say it's in recovery but don't worry it will direct you to the phones standard page where you can choose to backup , reset or update the handset accordingly
In that case I'd do the backup to make sure no data lost and then reset which will also update to latest software that now has no glitches
Enjoy and hope it helped you out |
