My favourite instrumental tune is the Lonesome Boatman. Great tune!!!
No matter who covers it just makes me tap my feet.
Just wondering what other Forumites think and listen to or recommend similar tunes. |

When I was younger we used to call the 'ladies thing' the lonesome boatman. It's shaped a bit like a boat and if ye look carefully you can see a wee man at one end. That's him....the lonesome boatman ! |

i had the same opinion but heard a group called The Pikeman playing it and thought it was a better version though. |

Love Finbar Furey fav is Green Fields of France but rem when I was in college guy used to play the lonesome boatman outside nite club in Salthill every night anyone around Galway old enough to remember the Oasis |

RTE made a documentary about the dunmore east lifeboat many years ago,while out in a gale,they used the lonesome boatman as the sound track it was brilliant

Finbarr pours his heart into it though, as he does with all his music. Every time I hear it I picture him sitting there with his eyes closed, deep in the moment, his flute in his hand, and his tin whistle as well. |

Have you heard. .. Blarney Pilgrims version? its by far the best" have seen the blarney pilgrims many times and actually got to know fairly well.they are the best ballad group I ever heard. But phil coulter's version of my old man is top class too. Would bring a tear to a glass eye. Check it out.
