"Ok I'm back from my 3 days of reflection and have realised what people want is serious discussion, so this is what I've been pondering. In all particle interactions there are several conserved properties, one of which is the conservation of energy. In particle accelerators enormous amounts of energy are imparted to fundamental particles which are then brought together in very energetic collisions. The colliding particles are entirely annihilated and a veritable zoo of exotic, unstable particles are produced. Those particles soon decay, sometimes cascading through several decays until finally stable, fundamental particles emerge. The energy that goes into the collision is much greater than the rest mass of the colliding particles but it is equal to the total energy of the final products that emerge, et voila, energy is conserved. My question is, by what mechanism is the energy conserved if the particles themselves are not? Unless the universe employs some sort of grand, remote bookkeeping scheme there must be a mechanism by which energy propagates from one annihilated particle to a newly formed particle. At a bare minimum, the conservation of energy taken together with the non-conservation of fundamental particles indicates that energy is more fundamental than the fundamental particles and that there is a structure, perhaps space time itself, that conserves energy and passes it along from one particle to another. Please discuss
