Belfast

its a big day where i live randy. Not a family in community did not loose a life.

Its never forgotten and the anger at the waste of young men's lives lives on in each generation.

Brave men never forgotten RIP

Grandfathers brother was killed - grandfather came back. It destroyed a generation of men needlessly.

We'll never know the horror of those days, or the ongoing pain of those who returned.

I always feel that by remembering those brave men from all over Ireland, it puts a huge responsibility on all of us to do what we can to live in peace

The soldiers were brave, the war was idiotic. Lest We Forget and all the other trite platitudes that get trotted out are echoes of the same shit that encouraged ordinary men and boys fight and die to protect the interests of a rich elite. The sooner we stop glorifying war, the better.

To remember brave men who gave their lives for others is neither "trite platitudes" or "shit". Neither I nor, I imagine, any of the other posters are under any illusion that there was a lot wrong with the first world war. Nor are we "glorifying war". You are not only wrong in your judgement, but extremely offensive.

Brave men suffered terribly and died, and we should do all possible to prevent similar happening again. Lest We Forget....
