Profile hidden...new mail

Hi, Just wondering can anyone shed some light on this for me, I thought that once you hide your profile you will no longer be able to receieve messages?? I've been scratching my head all morning here wondering how I've new mail!!!

Although people can't see your profile, all the wee boxes on the left hand side can still be seen, so you can still receive messages.

You need to turn on all your mail filters too to stop new mail. People who you have already talked to will still be able to get through
