Just read a different thread and a lady mentioned this (well done it needs to be mentioned)its a simple procedure costs about e80.00 even with safe sex i get it done every six months is it to long between screenings or is it about right

There's a real lack of free STD screening unfortunately. But there is one at St James' I think every Thursday morning... But you have to be early in order to get a ticket. Really awkward sitting there in a circle waiting... everyone studying each other, wondering! ha
I get regularly tested. Rather be safe, than sorry. And yes, I always use condoms but you never know. |

In Dublin there are free STI clinics in both the Mater and St James's Hospitals.
I get checked once or twice a year (most recently last month) particularly as with unprotected Oral (giving or receiving) there are still some risks sadly.
So keep it in check folks!  |

You Google std clinics in your local are and the red ribbon project screens people free of charge....Normally done in the local hospital!! There in limerick,Ennis and Nenagh...all free of charge!! The service is 100% confidential you can phone for an appointment...all you need is your phone no...its a fantastic service!!!The staff are excellent and nothing shocks them!! |

Free Clinics in James's are on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
I was in the Mater clinic a couple of years ago and there was a really hot girl in the waiting room. at least I knew she was sexually active!  I considered approaching her but reckoned maybe it wasn't the 'time or the place'. I did have a laugh to myself thinking what if me and her started dating and my friends might ask me, so 'Wilder' where'd you meet the new Girlfriend?  |

I have to say the service at St. James was great. However I had to queue for a ticket at 8am and then had to go back at 13.30. If you don't want to pay you have to expect to use up a full day. |

Twice a year for me.
I have a friend who when playing a lot would go every 3 months. I guess you do what feels right for you. I'm sure there are people who never get a check up at all. It's really important though. x |

If you use the fast track option in James's (if you've no symptoms) you can give the blood and urine sample and be generally out of there by 10ish on some of the days.. That's only introduced there in the last year as (in the guys case) swabs are no longer taken as they were found not to be accurate and the bloods and urine shows up any relevant infection apparently. |

There loads of different herpes viruses not all give u genital warts,90 % of the population will have the HPV virus at sum stage in their lives but it can leave the body in most healthy ppl!there different types of this virus too!sum types cos cervical cancer |

Dont forget about Clamidia - can also spread through oral.
No-one is completely safe once having sex at all.
Get a full screening at least every 6months. HIV has a period of about 3months before showing up.

its 80euro to 100 euro for private STD test, i get it done every 2 months, as i go to the guide clinic in st james , its take a ticket and wait, but remmeber everyone there for the same thing . You can never be carefull enough, As it the only way to make sure. |

Free STD clinic in Cork Victoria hospital. Just got myself fully screened and all good. Will go again in 3 months time. Better safe then sorry always
And ppl about herpes stays in the body always but is only contagious when the cold sores are present. A lot of ppl have it.Then skin to skin contact will spread it. Be careful and some ppl said that they dont meet that often. It only takes the one! Some STD's can be carried and not visible but still transferred.... Safe happy swinging |

I don't understand the notion of I've had a lot of meets so I need a check up opposed to the I only had a couple of meets so I don't need one. Just because you think you know someone and who they may have been with you on site, you actually probably don't know a thing about their sexual activity in reality. All it takes is one person to give you something you hadn't bargained on. Yes condoms are great but it doesn't make sex 100% safe.

OK I have been reading this forum and just have to ask the question 'Is it worth it?'
There are so many things STD's that can be caught and some are worse than others so is the sex worth the risk?
You will probably call me everything for asking but I am interested in the responses.
And before you ask.....is it worth it for me? Probably not and that is no reflection on any meets I have had.  |

Just back from the STD for my first ever full check up (I've had the chlamydia and another one done at family planning and was routinely tested for HIV when I was pregnant, but never been tested for EVERYTHING) I asked the nurse how often I should get checked, bearing in mind that I told her I was a swinger, and she said unless there's been unprotected sex or a condom has come off or split then 6 months is regular enough. She also confirmed that you can get any infection from oral sex, including herpes if the giver has a coldsore. She also said that there's been a huge increase in the number of cases of chlamydia in peoples EYES....i kid you not . Oh and there's been an increase of HIV in my local area too. My advice would be for everyone to go get checked out. It only takes less than half an hour. In the North it's free |

look up the HSE web site's
the amount of people who claim they get it done and yet when we even just ask them what was involved they can't answer that one correctly.

GUM clinic in Letterkenny also do full check ups for free, and the woman I spoke to said that any infection is also treated for free. No reason not to go. We're all responsible for our own health. |
