190kmh collision up the road from me a few weeks ago. Absolutely madness.

Some cars are just too powerful!

Mine was in for a service a few weeks ago, got another one for the day, a 15yr old Audi A6. Absolute rocket, you wouldn't feel any speed.

I was chatting on Bluetooth while driving on motorway, looked down and I was doing 160km/h! Felt like I was hardly moving!

I will admit that I like to get to places sooner but I've never had a car that can do over 150kmph nor would I push over 130km anywhere off of the motorway. If I got caught, so be it but i think there is a difference between speeding and being reckless. They should be put off the road.

I think this business of putting a high visibility van on the side of the road is laughable people flash and others drive by at 50km there should be unmarked car a mile past it when the boot goes down time to get to grips with road deaths

On the Naas road heading for Dublin, every Thursday, same spot, 5.30pm- speed van. Everyone knows it’s there on Thursdays and crawls- it’s a joke- change the rota up a bit.

Same with me ...sometimes you don't notice you've gone way past the limit in a good car

Problem is the car's nowadays are built so well and powerful you actually don't realize the speed you are doing.

The problem is that people forget about the consequences of speeding.

It could cost someone their life

True but most cars have an easy way to prevent that. Since the new speed limits on L roads I started using the speed limiter. So easy to use and no more accidentally going over the speed limit

Part of the problem is the state of the road surface. I agree that some of the speeds are mental when you see the roads they are on but. There should be some balance they lowered speeds on some national roads because they can't handle the speeds but there are some stretches of motorway that they could have increased the speed limits on too

Sooooo...

The perceived speeding problem is due to cars being able to go too fast? Without the driver being able to perceive his speed?

I (Mr here) can't be alone in being able to perceive the speed I'm travelling at (at least within 5kmh or so) without looking at the number displayed on the dash?

Speeding is a choice. We KNOW the speed limits, we CHOOSE to comply with them or exceed them.

Creeping briefly 5kmh or 10kmh over a 60 or 80 limit, or 10kmh or 20kmh over a 100 or 120 due to distraction or whatever isn't "speeding" IMO.

The arseholes who crashed into the tree at 190kmh in a town deserve their injuries and the lifelong difficulties (logistical, physical, social) they face as consequence of their actions.

No problem in driving on the secondary or main roads and sticking to the limits but once or twice on the M9 I've found myself at 140 kph and immediately slowed

I usually turn off the warning sound as soon as I start the car to be honest

If only they would invent a device to put in cars that would show our speed then people couldnt use silly excuses when caught....i think im on a winner with this idea.

God forbid we actually go to places within reasonable times but seriously, don't they plan to bring down main roads to 80kmph? Might as well start cycling. To avoid spamming, I agree with the assessment below the original comment too. And as for the other one, sure speeding kills but if the speeding is 5 or 10kmph above and there is an accident, there are other factors than speed.
