What did you learn from a job that everyone should know?
You don't have to share what job it is or if you are working there. Just something interesting you've learned in your life and would like to share the wisdom 😊 |

The drugs work. Sure pharma companies are in it to make money but as an end user of said drugs, they are saving my life on a daily basis. I've worked in one for 21yrs and was actually on one of their cancer drugs.
Advancements in research and new drugs means they are more targeted and specific. Better long term hope therefore. |

Linkedin was a once great idea that over the past decade or more has turned into an utter cesspit.
Performative bollocks from some of the most vain people on the planet patting each other on the back so they top up each others levels of self-importance.
(Yes I could go on a longer rant about this... No it's not everybody on Linkedin) |

Left a job some people do anything for because I wasn't happy even though it left me broke and struggling for me while. Since learned a lot of people in that job would kill to leave. Happiness is more important. You're just a number |

If something raises a quick reaction from you, ask yourself why, before you react. Some survival instincts, whilst useful in the mammalian world can be quite detrimental to your professional life. Your second thought is normally way better then your first. Don't worry you won't come over as indecisive, just thoughtful.
It's easier said than done, especially when some people in the room shouldn't be there. |

Wise advice I was given "Never think you're indispensable. No matter how good or how hard you work you are replaceable." |

I used to work in old school old man stole hardware store
There was no price tags. I asked my boss about it and he picked up a hammer and asked me what I thought it was worth. I said €8. Right he said. See if you can sell that for €8
That was it. I learned the prices of everything in the shop by estimating what the customers might pay for them. |

Relationships matter. If you enjoy working with good people, tell them, and stay in contact with them. If you’re lucky, you’ll end up working together again.
Also, if you lose your temper, or get frustrated about an event, an interaction or an email, sleep on the response. Don’t react in the moment. |

Don't be mean for the sake of being mean to new starters or the young ones just starting out. Don't keep your knowledge to yourself and then moan about them knowing nothing. Everyone has to start somewhere. You want them to be valuable contributors in the work place? Then invest your time and effort in helping them be just that. Don't dismiss their ideas as useless without first giving it thought. Encourage questions, take time to explain not just what to do, but why you're doing it. |

Biggest thing I've learned over the years is that you're on your own little journey through life. Ignore the noise. Some people love to moan so ignore them. Don't get dragged into other people's bullshit. Stay clear of all that negative energy. Focus on your own path. |

I often wonder do I spend too much time explaining why and the background to why it's done a certain way. I hope the people I mentor actually care and aren't thinking would I ever shut up |

You're never trying to teach your barista how to prepare a cappucino, your plumber how to fit a hot water tank or your electrician how to wire solar panels, so try and trust scientists even if you don't like their conclusions. |

* Follow your passion, not the pay cheque.
* The company doesn't give a shit about you. Your friends and family do - prioritize them.
* Always work yourself into a position of redundancy. If you can't be replaced, you can't be promoted.

Damien Omen was Deffo born evil !
"Some people are just pure evil, amd don't deserve to be in the world
Nobody is born evil. Neglect, trauma, and untreated illness can make people do terrible things."

"Its far easier to teach technical skills to someone with good customer service skills, than to teach customer service skills to someone who has the necessary technicals."
Working in IT for countless years and this is 100% true |
