Had a call today from Belgium pretending to be from Revolut. Knew straight away he was scamming as revolut only contact you through their own app. Claimed there was a €79 charge from amazon prime. They try to get you to open your app to cancel when in fact they take the money . Just be careful .

I've had that one a few times now. I like to chat to them for a while and pretend I'm installing the app they want me to install and it just won't work for some reason and we have to try again and again.
I figure if they are wasting time with me they have less time to scam someone who is vulnerable. |

I got a +32 (Belgium) call today telling me I was about to be arrested for money laundering.
When the gardai arrive I will tell them I always check my pockets for cash before putting my clothes in the washing machine.

02 have a special report number for scam calls.
You simply text 7726 and say you had a scam call.
Within minutes they text you back asking for the number of the scam caller and then They follow it up.
Worth checking with your network provider if they have the same system in place. |

But even those that are not vulnerable, as such, get scammed.
Timing is everything...A few years ago, we were discussing banking at home. Bills, outgoings etc, money had been paid for something that shouldn't have been. 30 minutes later we got one of those scam texts from BOI. They were new atvthe time.
In a panic, I clicked on it an was filling out details, then suddenly thought wtf am I doing!! |

Years ago, a salesman called to my parents selling a deal for a restaurant in a local town. If you bought it there and then it was great value.
They didn't buy it because they wanted credit card details at the doorstep. There was no card tap then, actual details
When I found out, I rang the restaurant to tell them scammers were using their business as a front. They said no, that was really them.
I asked did people actually give you their details, he said ya, loads did!  |

Haven't had a scam call in a long time but for 3 years in a row I was inundated with calls on Christmas Eve.
The first year I logged 52 calls and every number was different, both mobile and landlines from various countries. The first call was at 7.15 that morning and the last at 9 that night.
The following Christmas it was 64 calls and the year after that I gave up counting at 90 but it must have been close to 100.
No idea what the significance of it being Christmas Eve was but I reported each call as it came in as spam or phishing and never heard another word about them.
The other strange thing about it was that I have a dual SIM phone with a work number and a personal one on different networks and the calls were split evenly across both.

I love doing this when I have the time. Once had them on the phone for about an hour when they finally got annoyed and hung up on me. It has become one of my favourite hobbies 😁😁 |

I knew a publican who excused himself during scam or telesales calls to serve a customer and would then hand the phone to one of the auld lads at the bar and he would eventually pass it on to someone else. I think their record was 7 different people before the caller hung up. |

The tec support for Microsoft I normally keep on the line as long as possible if I've nothing to do.
I normally get work calls from a few European countries anyway so tend to answer all calls but I don't ring back any missed calls
I've heard the message telling me that Revenue want money off me or Prime but just hang up.
The really sneaky ones are the text messages from the bank or an post |

Feckers are always one step ahead. I hear some of this and have dealt with people who have lost their lump sum pensions highest being 550k and also heard calls where the “text” from “your daughter” asking for money has been followed up with an AI replication of one of your kids voices on a voicemail asking u to transfer the money. Apparently taken from a hacked phone voicemail record. Aaarrrggghhhhhh so scary now and just makes me sceptical of everything. |

And when I get them from my "kids" they call me mam (which they never do) and don't have txt speak in them, and always perfect spelling so it's a dead giveaway as a scam. |

I have got those text messages too didn’t respond to the messages but rang the banks card services, who cancelled the card and reissued a new one |

So yesterday I got 3 text messages from Netflix and I ignored them
My feckin son got an email off them and went in and changed the password
My family on holidays couldn't log in
5 tv's in the house had to be changed
All the phones have to be changed
Today I've to drive to my parents and a friends house to reset the passwords on their netflix as they're on my account
I called my son a few choice words |

Some of the scams are very good.
One alot get tricked by.....
They tell you a transaction has taken place, usually the Amazon charge and to freeze your main revolut card immediately so no more money can be taken, they then ask you to open your disposable card so they can refund the money taken, and to give them only the last 8 digits and the CSV as a security measure and warn you never to give anyone the full card number or expiry date and that Revolut will never ask this
As its a disposable card, the know the first 8 digits and the expiry date and they take a shot at your card.
People feel safe as they only gave the last 8 digits and csv. |
