Not 100% sure but it could cost from i think €1200 up to maybe €2500 per year.

And if you want the boat lifted in and out, that could be another few hundred euros.

And then the insurance on top of that.

And probably get it serviced once a year as well.

I could be wrong but I think it's around 50 euros per foot length of boat,

insurance and maintenance are other things to consider and if you buy a reasonably priced one then you're probably buying a ball of trouble,

I considered buying one before but came to the conclusion that you'd need to be using it a lot for it to be financially worthwhile

Have you firstly looked at how much it's gonna cost you to get properly qualified for the craft otherwise it will cost you a lot for insurance if they would even insure you without the proper training depending on the size of the boat you will need the equivalent of rya level 3 power

some where near

Whatever spare money you have now will definitely be gone by end of year 1

It's great if you have the time to spend on it

But unless you have something nice and reliable do your homework

Saw moorings advertising in market yard letrim Carrick on Shannon area

Don't know about the shannon, but generally moorings are cheap enough in ireland. Not to be confused with renting a private serviced berth. Now they can get costly. But registering your own mooring, not so much you just have the cost of making it/ getting it in the water.

Take the plunge, buy the boat. Boats are funny, they are weird money pits that can swallow all your money up but at the sametime can last years without much money been pumped into them.

Just think the spare time I have I could stay on it...I'm going in totally blind....but I think the shannon cruisers can be rented with no licence I would want a huge thing.. I like older cars and am aware of the extra costs but most stuff I will do my self I'm hamdy enough

I am in Shannonbridge a lot. Camper not on a boat.

But have seriously considered buying and living on a boat, or as a minimum for the summer months.

If you are moving up or down river, which is what I would be doing the cost is not high.

But obviously if you intend to moor up in the one spot you will have to pay, especially if using the services.

Waterways Ireland ( based in Enniskillen) have some very good information and I rang them last year looking for general information and I found them very helpful.

Engine servicing is not difficult if you are used to changing oil and filters

Best of luck
