Those were probably from me when you created that thread ages ago asking to befriend any "classy" and "urbane" men. Platonically, of course. 😉 |

I do look at them and generally reply. But I honestly can’t think of a single occasion where it’s led to anything. I usually find that where someone’s first contact is by wink, they’re utterly hopeless at messages and most of the time don’t even reply when I send them a message in response to the wink. |

"Jeez looks like we're in the minority in returning a wink with a hi message, maybe we view it as a way of being nice and mannerly to people who've taken the time to read our profile. "
I used to get winks and friend requests every week from women competing for fabs on hot pics. I'd never spoken to any of them.
I ignore any friend requests from anyone I haven't been chatting to for a while but I've had dozens of winks over the years that I've responded to only to be ignored and get no reply so I decided it was just lazy people chancing their arm.
No point winking someone if you aren't prepared to chat when they return your wink. |

We don't really look at them. Life is busy enough and answering messages already takes time.. don't need winks on top of that. We also state in our profile that we don't look at them so it's a good indicator for who read the profile and who didn't. ![](/icons/s/cool.gif) |

I absolutely never look at winks unless I receive them and never ever send them unless I like a profile but think I've no chance with them. But apart from that, I never use the wink feature and feel it's a totally pointless feature to have on a social site. |

I've mentioned this in similar threads - I just interpret winks as some perfunctory action. I don't send winks. Indeed I haven't sent one for over three years, other than those which are part of a forum game or a challenge (an equally pointless exercise).
I've sat next to 'women friends' at a social who have shown me their 'wink tally', with the number varying between 350 and 600++ winks. A wink sent from a single man, no matter how well-intentioned with all the airs and graces, will simply languish like an abandoned child in some obscure orphanage.
No woman of substance has the time or the wherewithal to sift through an ever-increasing mountain of winks. Hence their limited use. In fairness they are useful to a small minority. I've heard that they seem to work well for Couples... |
