The biological impact of sex on body and mind
Jump to: Newest in thread
I had a period of 15 years of celibacy. I was very depressed, my confidence was very low, I had a lot of self loathing. I hope I never go back to that.
Sex makes me feel at peace, fulfilled and loved and I don't take anything for granted

Great topic.
Mostly, I find that immediately afterwards I am full of mental energy and if it's a quick session, physical energy too!
Occasionally, I am gratifyingly worn out, panting with pleasure in a general euphoric state.
The day following leaves me with a spring in my step and a twinkle in the eye.
I am majoring on good sex of course. |

I start to feel depressed and everything is catastrophic for me if I go more than a week or so. I hate it as I feel I should be in more control of my own emotional state. It's kinda pathetic actually. Once it happens I feel relieved and level headed. Luckily I haven't had major periods without sex since my late teens. |

I wonder if it’s different between men and women. I enjoy the physical contact, the knowledge someone ‘wants me’ and then the ultimate satisfaction of the sexual activity. The primal urge for the male is to procreate hence the feeling of energy vs disillusion with and without sex. Just in my opinion! |

This is an interesting observation so I've amended it slightly😋
It's as close to male experience of the female hormonal state as I've ever heard. My periods used to have that effect me, up and down, pain, relief and self loathing.
As for sex, good sex lightens my mood, gives me energy and what I call the 'well-fucked face' which is shiny-eyed, glowing and looks 10 years younger.

You can self love all you like but there is just something so much better about being with a man (for me)
The smell of him, his hairy body.. his hands on my skin.. tastes.. kisses.. the orgasms.. and if you’re with someone you have tested with etc them leaving you with cum inside your body.. it actually affects my mood..
I’m calmer, more confident, content and overall happier. |

Good physical contact & mind blowing sex is a great release, stress reliever & I feel good. Without sex i'm like a grumpy little gremlin. Was in a car crash in November and wasn't having sex I was a ball of rage haha ... |

I have recently learned, through unforeseen circumstances, that there is a hormonal cycle within men, that involves testosterone, that if testosterone is not produced in the body, can lead to a vicious cycle where weight is put on, and other systems are affected, leading to prostate cancer...
Not to go down into too much detail and intimacy and the tonne of jokes it spun in my head, but it took only one encounter to correct the situation at this early stage before it became a serious problem.
For me personally, given the amount of stress I suffer on an emotional and rational level is pretty high. Sex, other then plowing through an acre of soil with a shovel, is the singular most effective way to rebalance me.

I can’t speak for all men but yeah that’s my main turn on. Love the feeling when her legs start to tremble around me and eyes rolling, biting of the lip and so on.
I don’t like quick in and out, prefer a build up to a big climax, and another if there’s anything left in the tank so do usually be wrecked afterwards but there’s no better feeling - especially in the morning! |

I went for years without sex I can't say it had any dramatic affect on my day to day life. Yes I missed it and the feeling of skin on skin and the enjoyment of sex. But apart from that I didn't really give it a lot of thought and I had decided at that stage no sex was better than mediocre crap sex.
I still feel that way and if the sex with someone now is meh I just wouldn't meet them again. |

My sex drive is ridiculously high. I cannot go without some form of sexual contact or release each day. After I feel so relaxed and more present. At times I do wish I could turn it off. The problem is the more I get, the more I need - I know this may come across as big-headed or a positive for some. The amount of extra time I'd have for my other hobbies if I weren't so horny! |

Like most I definitely feel a lift in my endorphins and energy levels.
Can also experience a drop in mood the next day or two depending on how lively the activities were.
Either way I find my nervous system gets a reset |

Very interesting observation. This warrants a thread all to itself. |

If I'm at a place where we're really into it, then I crave more. I get quite addicted to the highs. I happily lock the door for a bed-in that lasts a couple of days whenever possible. I've been told I'm highly sexed. 🤷🏻♀️
Can it really be a problem? Yes, it has been.

Not so much sex but I do know if partner swallows after oral she's absolutely buzzing the next day.
I go down with equal enthusiasm but she's not a squirter so can't confirm if the opposite is true.
As it's only a happenstance 3-4 times a year, my afterglow is mitigated with my knowledge it won't happen again for quite a while

Over the last while, I’ve had enforced periods of not being able to have sex and it absolutely has a massive impact on me mentally. My life is a mile a minute so stress and anxiety are almost my norm. When I am seeing someone regularly from here, it’s an escape and I can relax, the sex releases the endorphins I need and I feel at peace and gives me mental clarity. It’s hugely important! And as said above, the DIY doesn’t have the same impact, I think it’s more down to human connection. There is a fabber that I meet who I say is good for my soul, spending time with him almost centres me, like a mental reset. |

The hormone testosterone plays a very important role in sex drive for both men and women. Later in life the hormone level drops and that can seriously effect sex drive alongside other effects including erectile dysfunction, loss of muscle and bone density.
Testosterone levels can be tested by a doctor and they can prescribe testosterone therapy which can top-up the missing hormone.
What many don't realise is that testosterone also plays an important role in women. It is part of the mix of hormones that regulate their libido too, and if their levels drop they can have it prescribed in a similar way to HRT for menopause which replaces missing hormones during menopause. If in doubt ask your GP for a test. |

I had a radical hysterectomy last year so went into immediate surgical menopause, so straight on to the HRT, my sex drive never left though, but I’m sure it will be a balancing act over the next 10 plus years with the dosages. My GP was clueless about HRT so my surgeon suggested going to a menopause specialist instead as my bloods will have to be monitored for hormone levels. There are other issues with HRT which might mean it’s not suitable for me, I’m hoping that’s not the case |

I think that fundamentally it is the same for both sexes. Nature, in fairness, designed both species, female and male, to compliment one another in their needs and desires.
As a male, I also enjoy the "wants me" feeling, the sensuality, the physicality, the fore and after play and obviously the pure high I receive and experience in doing what nature wants me to do - the sexual act with a willing partner.
Long may it continue. |

Good luck on your recovery! The lack of GP awareness and willingness to prescribe HRT (to nonsurgical patients), is a scandal. It can be life changing and it's not OK that some need to fight for it. Don't even get me started on the fact that it's supposed to be free now, but the government are dragging their heels on this. |

Don’t get me started on the lack of knowledge, support & funding for women’s health in Ireland. 20 years of surgeries in Ireland lead me to a specialist in the uk coz there was no surgeon in Ireland that could help. It’s an absolute joke |
