So with lots of people off on their travels, do you keep your petrol/diesel topped up or do you let it run right down?

I don't trust the gauge so I'd be panicking when the light comes on but I'm getting braver!

My gauge is showing the dreaded dashed line. I don't think I'd make it as far as the petrol station now tbh 🙈

I have this thing where I won't fill the car at weekends if I'm working in case it gets taken

Don't know why ...just a habit

Have been known to run a tank down to zero and haven't run out yet

I used to be told it would wreck the engine with dirty diesel for some reason

1/4 tank is refuel mark, had to replace a diesel fuel tank pump once from from leaving it go to the light reminder. Costly exercise in procrastinating.

Fellow electric driver - range is 400km on the Cupra born. Have driven drogheda to Donegal and back to Monaghan on one charge absolutely love it and no range anxiety - €16 max a week to charge instead of €150 diesel for same mileage. Couldn't beat it.

When diesel used to be shittier or there was dodgy diesel being sold, the bottom of the tank could collect a "sludge" that you wouldn't want running through your engine.

Oh the one job I hate doing is putting petrol in my car. I left it run right down and only have to fill it up 2/3 times a month.

Petrol in diesel is grand but diesel will destroy a petrol engine.

It's the other way around. Petrol is much, much worse.

Petrol engine could actually run on Diesel, very badly, but still run and possibly be cleaned.

Petrol ignited into diesel engine and it's fucked! Melted!

Rarely fill mine as they say your carrying extra weight that you don't need.

Mainly keep it at half full plus diesel is only 161c in portlaoise at the minute in a Go garage

If you're running low regularly you won't have the dirty diesel problem. Running low once in a blue moon will cause issues so make sure to empty your tank as regularly as possible!!!

Not totally accurate. I've known garages to put 5 litres of petrol into diesel tanks to reduce the emissions before the NCT. A full tank of petrol in a diesel car is trouble though.

I've known people to accidentally put a few litres of unleaded into a diesel, and just stopping and topping full with diesel was just fine.

Always let it go for ages with the light on before I refill. Not the best idea though as it does drugde up crap from the bottom of the tank.

I stick in a diesel treatment every now and again. Try not to let my car run off the fumes too often but it does happen a fair bit 😏😂

Not Belfast but NI

When I was travelling to work I filled it religiously every Monday morning which usually lasted the week.

Now I am at home most days and I always forget to top it up. Even the Red light doesn't scare me 😎

But I do know my other half checks my car weekly for water and oil so he will refill it if I leave it long enough. 🙊🙊

I generally just bulk buy from two different companies when near empty and top up the vehicles weekly, works out 20c cheaper than the pumps most times.
