Did women wear bras years ago?
Jump to: Newest in thread
I haven't worn a bra for about 5 years. The very odd time I will and as part of a sexy outfit but essentially once covid hit that was me and bra's relationship over. I threw them all out (along with my ex 🤣🤣🤣). |

From the Ancient Greek/Minoan frescoes, we know that some women had exposed breasts, while others wore something like a bra, though without the straps, more like a fabric taping designed to prevent excessive breast movement when doing sports. |

"Ban them. Fuck societal Norms "
Nothing to do with societal norms.
I don't want to be walking around with my melons swinging in the wind gathering even more attention than they already get
Bras are a necessary evil for some of us. It's like a comfort blanket |

I’m glad you have it then. I was just riding the Free the nip movement!
They are lovely to be fair. I can see why they get the attention! |

I read an article years ago that mentioned a few reasons why bra's came into being.
Going back in time when people foraged for food etc - they were worn more as a protection for the nipples and especially for breastfeeding women.
Over time bra's became a fashion accessory where they were often worn so as to bring extra attention to the breasts.
However in the Victorian era women had their chests taped to flatten their breasts as that was the fashion then.
Bear in mind that in much warmer climes where clothing is minimal with locals - topless is the norm.
Sports bra's have an obvious role to play.
The jist of the article was that the norm should be no bra for most of the time and only worn as and when deemed necessary. |

That is mixing various cultures together, though. We know, that Minoan civilization in Crete had fashion of dresses with open chest, with boobs sticking out. Greek culture, if we are talking about what it is now Greece, preferred free flowing dress, possibly no bra, however, as already mentioned, there are frescoes and mosaics depicting women in strap bras. However, as far as I am aware, the first real surviving 'modern' bra and thongs are from medieval period. |

I’m always col, which means my nipples are always sticking out. I’ve also small breasts - if I didn’t wear a bra I’d get way too much awkward attention at work and I don’t need nor want that. |

Ginger here…
I stopped wearing painful underwired bras during covid and now I wear those little bralet tops thingys.. much more comfortable..
but if I’m wearing something I need a good shape in I’ll still pop on an underwire one..
I’m sure women have always used something to support their boobage.. even if it was just to keep the nipples warm. |

Mrs constantly complains about the pain of a bra and the sigh of relief when it comes off at bed time, I told her to stop wearing bras but she said if you dont wear a bra your boobs go saggy over time ?

"I've yet to find a comfortable bra. Whomever works in lingerie needs to talk to women and design one that actually works.
"
Apologies in advance, I am no expert. But I have a friend who gets her bras in London. There is a place which specially custom fits them. I don't remember the name of the place. Maybe there's a place like that in Ireland somewhere or it's worth a trip to London for you. |

Mrs sometimes gets measured for a bra and buys one but that's expensive, then goes to Tesco for a cheaper one. Big cup sizes tend to be expensive |
