So decided to try out the seated calf raise machine and I now have a lovely bruise in my hand.
Some of these fancy machines are fecking dangerous
Still a few in the gym I'm afraid to try out though

I always do the standing calf raise.
I used to be terrified of all the weight machines tbh. Then over the years I got PT's in the gym.
I go with my own programmes now, using both free & machine weights.
Squished my finger under a 20kg plate a few mnths back though 🤦♀️ Dont ask....lol |

I wouldn't be too worried about machines, except maybe looking like an idiot trying to learn them.
Free weights scare me a bit, I don't ego lift but I've seen what a bad form squat etc can do.
My gym doesn't introduce people to machines but honestly most are fine, ask somebody whose using it for help |

The leg press machine continues to scare the bejasus outta me, always afraid I won’t rack it up correctly, one of these days it’s gonna fold me in half |

As long as you keep your knees bent, you should manage. What worries me sometimes is it'll come down but not go back up |

As a trainer I can say yes, whenever I have someone using free weights I'm near them, way more to go wrong than using the machines |

"all the machines intimidate me,,, train like rocky old school freezing garage "
Machines are great for new goers and when you need a crutch/safety net. Most free weight allows for more motion and you can exercise your stabilizers. I like a mix of both |

"I mainly do military press, squats, deadlift and bench press and try to add 3-4 complimentary exercises to my sessions. So mainly use a squat rack, bench etc
"
Sounds like you are doing ok with the weights. Load bearing exercises are super important for women of all ages. Esp older one's like myself 🤦♀️😅 |

Fold you in half - that's impossible with your inbuilt twin shock absorbers |
