I've heard this rumor of if FF or FG get into power again they will tax us heavily on empty bedrooms to make us take in ipas applicants, surely someone here knows more about these alligations?

I'd call BS on that one. Even FF/FG aren't that deluded that they would try this. They would have a better chance of getting the water charges up and running. I'd say it was asked at some level and swiftly ruled out

Ok so I can understand if there was a nuclear accident or bomb in The UK and we took in thousands of displaced so the government made an order with people's permission

But as far as I know there's something in the constitution about our property that a referendum would be needed to change otherwise

It's this not already a thing in England as part of the council tax and you can avoid paying it by taking in a lodger.

If you are renting your rent allowance is amended down by either £14 or £25 PW depending on circumstances to allow for this tax and there are other allowances based on disabilities.

It's nothing new and not as far fetched as you might think.

They have brought in a law under housing that if the government find your house is to big for you, they can buy it off you for people on waiting lists who need a big house I.e. your in your 70s and have a 5 bed house you don't need that but the young people who have 5 kids need it so we are buying and you have no say

Article 43 in the right to housing bill. Also says that residents of the country would be entitled to the house rather than citizens so if someone is only here a month they get a house

Article 43 in the right to housing bill. Also says that residents of the country would be entitled to the house rather than citizens so if someone is only here a month they get a house "

ARTICLE 43

1 1° The State acknowledges that man, in virtue of his rational being, has the natural right, antecedent to positive law, to the private ownership of external goods.

2° The State accordingly guarantees to pass no law attempting to abolish the right of private ownership or the general right to transfer, bequeath, and inherit property.

2 1° The State recognises, however, that the exercise of the rights mentioned in the foregoing provisions of this Article ought, in civil society, to be regulated by the principles of social justice.

2° The State, accordingly, may as occasion requires delimit by law the exercise of the said rights with a view to reconciling their exercise with the exigencies of the common good.

Maybe I'm blind but I'm not seeing it?

There is an argument that older people in state owned housing that is now larger than they need should be helped to downsize so that a family without accommodation can have a house suitable for them. That's state owned council property though. Privately owned property cannot be compulsory purchased without a far greater public need than this.

If they had those plans then they would never publicly announce that.

They tried a similar move in the UK to get older people to sell their family home and move into apartment or granny flat type of accommodation, but I don't think that worked out for them
