I hear the promoter on this morning trying to get the next government to pay towards Katie fighting in croke Park or it won't happen.
She's a sportswoman and it's a private business so why should our tax money go into her pocket to pay for her retirement fund
Any thoughts

Maybe because she is one of the greatest athletes to come out of Ireland and it would be a great way to send her off. After all this government and previous governments have no problem wasting billions on shit. So I'd have no problem with us the tax payers helping her achieve this. It'd the least she deserves. |

She got a nice purse($6million) from her last fight so the idea that she needs this to be able to retire is nonsense.
I’d prefer it if they spent the money on our Olympians that are in far greater need of funding. |

It’s more then likely her last fight and they want it in Dublin but Croker is pricey
Saying that didn’t McGregor offer to help with the last attempt! To be fair she deserves a massive send off for everything she’s done |

It was put towards it alright
I don't have a problem with that as I happen to think The GAA is one of the cornerstones of this country and helps bring everyone together |

So if Mcgregor ever fought again would you help him out with a payment if Irish Legends is the criteria |

Is KT in temporary accommodation or on a social housing waiting list. Is she a number of years on a waiting list for medical treatment. Is she on a hospital trolley in an overcrowded A&E. Has she any of the other myriad of day to day problems that the ordinary people of this country have to suffer. I don't believe so.
I hope our next government will be strong enough and sane enough to not give into the "ledgends" language and other nonsense that people go on about these highly paid sports professionals and waste taxpayers money promoting them instead of prioritizing more urgent needs in our society.
Looking forward to a continuing strong economy and an equitable and sensible share out of the proceeds.

"But we can spend on a bike shelter, a photocopier that didn't fit.
Yes put money towards her boxing here. Tickets could be sold than at a reasonable price for her fans "
One waste of money doesn't make a good argument for another |

Plenty of government has been spent on sports that are quite capable of propping themselves up (horse and greyhound racing for example) boxing at that level is more then capable of supporting itself so I don't see a reason why the government should pay towards it while plenty of other sports are ignored. |

KT, Sky and matchroom boxing should each take a small hit on profit to make it happen and if it is a dream for KT to fight in Croke Park, then she should stipulate this to her management team and promoter to make it happen at all costs.
I'd rather see any tax payers money going towards real issues and I say this as someone who would try go to see KT fight in Croker if it did happen.
I don't think we need to fund a multimillionaire to get even more rich, even if she is very nice and the most successful Irish sports person ever... |

"Was croke park not built for Irish sport and Irish people so why shouldn't she be allowed box ther "
It was built for any sport and any nationalities
Nobody is saying she can't box there
The promoter want the government to step in and guarantee a few million to Katie so the promoter makes more money for himself
They still won't reduce the price of the tickets the the public but will advertise from 50 euro a ticket
But only sell 20 of them in a restricted view place in the stands |

If kt wants to box in croke park she will have to hire it like every other promoter.
I was out in Santry (Morton) stadium during the summer and it needs a total upgrade except the track which has been upgraded.
The condition of the league of Ireland grounds. More money spent on reports for Dalymount.
The condition of some of our schools. I could go on. |

I'd like Katie to retire now. I don't know what she will find to replace Boxing in her life, the dedication, the training, the risk and the success of winning when it's uncertain!
These things must be in her mind, but she is not getting younger and right now she still has the grace and power of being at the top.

Because the promoter has requested a couple of million from the government otherwise Katie won't get the farewell in croke park and the couple of million in the bank that she deserves according to him
I can see it going a couple of ways
Dept of Tourism makes a payment as it will help tourists
I don't think it will bring it that many and the ones that come will get rode by the hotels
National lottery funds some of it for 10,000 tickets |

“Katie won’t get the farewell in croke park” so what?
“Won’t get the couple of million she deserves”? Why not, do you not think she’ll make bank if she has it in the 3 areana or even Croke Park unsubsidized?
Also “deserves”, why does she deserve it?
I know you’re not advocating for or against but it seems like a uncharitable cash grab and if I was going to think very cynically on it, they may play into the jingoism and “look after our own” side of things that are increasingly popular these days |

After her last 5 or 6 fights the last thing Katie Taylor needs is another tough one. The abuse and damage she has taken to her head in those fights has been huge. Her face has been unrecognisable in press conferences with all the swelling and cuts.
If she does have a fight in Croke Park it'll take at least a year to organise at which time she'll be pushing 40.
Not a good look for a Government if it went horribly wrong! Absolutely no way they should be bankrolling it. |

I'm a big Katie fan but my first wish is for her to retire now, health and wealth (already substantial) intact.
If she is to fight again in Ireland, I would like a big Croke Park event, but but run privately / commercially. Don't see any reason she or her promoters should be financed even in part from the public purse. Fine if the planners etc smooth the process for approvals for the event etc but that's it. |

" I have to agree with you ! Enough squandering of taxpayers money as it is! I’m a huge fan of Katy and what she has accomplished but it’s time to hang up the gloves before a serious injury occurs!! |

I think tax payers money should be invested in sport for every discipline and every ability, so that every child benefits from it not one professional athlete from one sport.
Katie Taylor can retire from boxing with her head held high. I'm sure there are other ways she can be celebrated without a Croke Park gig paid by the next government. |

Totally agree with this
Sport funding needs to be equal across all codes. Gaa gets most funding every year. |

Equal how though?

If ticket prices were reasonable like you suggested, I'd have no problem having my tax money used to put her up in Croke Park...Just hate how all sports now are charging ridiculous prices for tickets.... |
