What books have influenced the way you think and behave ?

I will go with thinking fast and slow

A lovely wiki summary says ‘people often overestimate how much they understand about the world and underestimate the role of chance in particular. This is related to the excessive certainty of hindsight, when an event seems to be understood after it has occurred or developed’

4 agreements and The Secret both still resonate.

Current, and totally different, The Screwtape Letters. Written nearly a hundred years ago but think about social media and messaging. Wierd how its still the same in a different world.

Peig ....The reason I still hate the Irish language

The Bible...even though it's a fairy tale I try to live my life according to at least a few of the commandments

The magic faraway Tree because I still remember the characters and the adventures they had and it gave me my love of reading

The story of O

Because I read it as a teenager and had my first ever wank afterwards

The Magic Tree was one of my favourites and all the Terry Pratchets.

As for what influenced me, The Ethical Slut was really helpful as I embarked on a sex positive journey and tried to shed all the years of slut shaming.

A rich piece of our cultural hertiage to some. A piece of endured torture for the young people of Ireland to others. Its probably neither.

But it set me on a journey, and I hated the bloody thing. Good aul Peig eh.

I read Zen and the art of Motorcycle Maintenance as well as a teen. It was a fashion then (you were cool if you read it...but probably cooler if you understood it)

I read it with a mix of 'wha?' and 'OMG my life has changed forever'. It was at my limit of understanding of the concepts though. Mix of a immature mind and maybe lack of brain cells.

The Bible

I have learned reading perusing the book called The Bible for Believers and Nonbelievers. It is a funny, though rather childish, book highlighting the absurdity of religious zealotry and beliefs. I had to read the original Bible after that of course, and it didn't disappoint! Such hilarity, much smiting and oh! The letters! When people had to think before putting their insults on the paper and then waiting for months to get a reaction, the trolling and putdowns were more inquisitely crafted than in this age of instant gratification.

The Catcher in the Rye

When the hero is in the hotel in New York he's see a man dressed in women's underwear.

Later in life , I realised that I couldn't be that weird, that is a old book 😀 I think written in the 1950s.

When I grew up there was no such thing as bi gay even straight

You were either Normal or Queer!

So reading about a transvestite sorted by accident ,made a big impression on me , eventually!
