So I have to do something about the near 5000 photos in my Google account
I just got to a point where I stopped printing them out and saving them instead on the phone
First child there life is printed in the little 6 by 4 photos
Last child I doubt if I have many printed at all
Now there's years of photos to be printed and looked at and laughted at with the family
I know it's going to cost an absolute fortune to do but it's the time it takes
Just a question to those who are a lot better organised and technical than me
Did you ever do it
Did you go through every picture first and delete the ones you didn't want
Did you save them on a PC first or just using your phone
Thanks
Ps the sexy photos are in a secure photo so no problem there |

You could print those which mark the history of your family, rites of passage , etc.
The remainder you could save to a card or memory stick, and have on permanent display on a laptop, or picture viewer somewhere in the house, for anyone to browse.
I lost so many photos, through dead phones and computers. |

The photos books aren't that expensive and you could do one for each kid. A great Christmas Present?
A pain going through so many photos though.
I've always organised mine by year on folders on a large capacity external hard drive. |

I printed 400 from a few thousand a couple of years ago. I went through the album on a tablet screen and picked photos at random throughout a ten year timeline. I went very fast. You'd be surprised how easily the good photos stand out.
If I was to do it again I'd keep the selection process the same as select a photo book though. My ex still has the photos in a shoe box |

My first child who is 27 I've loads of photos, she blinked i took a picture you get my drift. Second one probably just as bad only a year between them. My youngest is 18 hardly any but my phone is saying different. |

Spend a few days to select 30-50 best photos per child and print them into nice photo albums with personalised notes.
For the rest, keep them archived in a digital format somehow. Personally, I have photos organised by years on my PC and also backed up on an external drive. |

I must look through my archive to pick some suitable ones for the foto montage that has now become so popular in funeral homes......⚰ 🖥
It will be nice to keep the crowd entertained while they queue to pay their respects....

I was at a funeral on Monday and that's when it hit me about my lack of photos as I watched their photo montage on the screens |

"Printing!!?? What is this the 90's!
I keep all mine in the cloud. "
Yes, but an album with printed photos is an art statement in itself. Someone can take the album from your book shelf and flick through it. Practically nobody will ask you to show them you collection of thousands of random photos on the cloud. |

I haven't seen a physical photo album in decades, and if someone handed one to me to look at I would look at them like they had two heads. I do take your point though. |

Do you not have bags of family photos buried in a wardrobe someone that will be found when you're dead |

We didn't ever get a physical album when we got married! If someone handed me their physical holiday/wedding album I would struggle not to literally roll my eyes |

Only 5000, I do that in a day, commercially .
Be wary of deleting picture files unless they are really very very bad, why, you never know when you you need them, 20, 30 years down the road. Even if they are bad there is good software, and getting better that could make your bad photo into a good one.
A key point if you do key files of photos that you back them up.
As for displaying your best, other than montages, photo books are easily put together and are relatively cheap to produce.

If you have google photos
-Tag a person and name them in photos and it will bring up all photos of that person
- You can then have an online album of each person.
- Select the ones of that person (-and then tag others who are in pics with them.
- You can then ‘select’ photos of all the people you want to have in certain albums or places and so on.
- You can always print ones from the albums you want
- You can invite the people you want to have access to those specific albums so they can see the photos too, as they might like to keep some of the photos too
- Pay for more storage if you need it. |

Be ruthless.
Delete deleted deleted.
There are only ever a handful of good shots per hundred shots. A high number would be 10 in ever 100.
So 500 out of 5000 would be a very high volume of good shots. |

Good list and I do most of this. I would add to this to backup photos in original quality rather than the storage saver option. The quality is much nicer. |

"I got a new laptop yesterday and photos are taking up so much space, so I'm going to go through them all. Probably 80% are work but needs must...
"
Put them on Google photos / iCloud / your preferred service. That way you get your local storage back, and they are backup up. Disks break all the time. |

Yeah, I must put a more effort into doing that. I tell myself I'll go through them and never do.. |

Same one literally got thousands to go through but my idea was to get a raspberry pie thingy and hook it up to an old laptop screen and upload all the photos to that so they randomly flick though and I can click a like button to save to a liked file at my leisure |

Thanks , Fully agree best way to keep them looking sharp is keep them in original quality . I do that and also backup to an external hard drive as well as the cloud but as has been mentioned they can and do break |
