Do you leave reviews about restaurants, trips, tours etc? Has anything positive ever come out of leaving a negative review?

Don't leave public reviews but would email a complaint if I felt it was warranted and the problem wasn't sorted on the night

Have had hundreds refunded on a big fancy meal that was a major let down once

They actually agreed with my comments and apologied

I never leave a review just can’t be arsed, I reckon since I paid for my meal or stay that’s enough of a review in my opinion.

Interesting, I had a bad stay at a hotel and I emailed them with the threat of writing to the countries tourism board. They offered me a free nights stay bur that’s useless to me, sure it would cost me more to fly there. I also had a really disappointing meal at Hawksmore and I never reviewed/complained. It still irritates me. And recently I spent €85 on a tour of the. Vatican museums and I felt I learned nothing.

I’m tempted to vent but am reticent because I don’t see the point.

I had a really bad experience in a hospital in the uk recently; won’t go into detail but I emailed the hospital once home and recovered and relayed all my concerns and experiences and a lady from the hospital rang me almost immediately. She agreed with everything I said and took it very seriously, two staff members were brought in for a review, all staff members were sent on extra training and a day & night member off staff will have additional training on treating diabetics. They also sent me a bouquet of flowers as an apology. Honestly I was delighted that they took what I said seriously and the end goal for me was for no one else to go through the same as I did so it was a win win. I didn’t have to get bitchy or nasty about it, they are humans doing their jobs at the end of the day so I’m glad I contacted them

I work in an industry that has to be high on customer service as it's very expensive

A polite word in someone's ear on the night works wonders if there's a problem as does an email afterwards

If someone comes up to me trying to fuck me out of it they get nowhere

On my example above I spent 800 on a dinner for 6 people from work

It was dire , cold delayed courses, some finished mains while others hadn't been served theirs

Had a word with the manager told him I'd email him next day as it couldn't be saved

Got back 400 on my card plus 200 towards another dinner which I used and the food was great

Sometimes, depends if the service has warranted a special mention for a good or bad reason or if they have asked for a review. Always check reviews also before buying most things ,visiting restaurants, hotels etc !

I love leaving reviews specially if the place was nice. We use reviews to pic places we might like specially when away on holiday and worked best for us. Have been asked once after leaving a bad review to meet with a manager before, but place dissappinted me that much I decided to decline

I'm an Amazon reviewer. I get to pick 8 things a day to review and get to keep them.

Nope. I generally go to a restaurant to have a break. Most (including the good ones) don't impress me enough on food, flavour, skill and combination. However if it's good service, half decent food and a good atmosphere I leave happy.

The West

I don't leave review's but when things go below par I usually mention it politely and 9 times out of 10 a manager will try to make it right.

The industry I work in I'm often the guy the buck stops with and if someone gets as far as me it's usually a big deal. The people who are abusive get the bare minimum. Anyone else gets made whole and then some.

Same. Most of my reviews are through Google and I search new places on it also as I trust them more.

I leave google reviews if the service was really good or if they are a new business and deserve it. Also leave them if I have a terrible experience but that’s rare.

I use google reviews to help me pick places like restaurants or hotels too.

I always leave revues, restaurants, bars, hotels. Most reply generically, but a few do email to find out a bit more about complaints.

Vatican tours are a dead loss tbh. Done 2 and never again. It's just a cash cow for Catholic Church.

People complain to get stuff for free in hotels and restaurants the whole time.

Serial reviewers with good intentions and nothing else to do cause damage to small businesses.

A bad review is now not always a bad thing as it shows the the serial bad reviewer out for being a moaner, people can see through these also.

I left a good review for a small hotel in Killarney 12 years ago. Went back a year later as part of an even bigger group and they gave all 16 of us a free drink on arrival and said it was because of the review I had left. The fact they even connected me to the review was unbelievable.

I haven't reviewed anything since until last month when I left what I thought was a scathing comment on an hotel in Spain.

It was only a week later reading the reviews by the others in our group that I realised mine could be classed as a decent review in comparison to what they wrote.

"So If I ever go to the Vatican what should I go to see "

If I was to do it again, I would book months in advance for €20 (I’m not sure if you get to skip the queue with this ticket?) on the Vatican website and then just get the personal audio thingymabob that scans a code of a piece and tell you about it. Do it at your own pace. Stop at what interests you. I felt I was herded through at break neck speed and the guide was talking about a piece as he was walking by it rather than stopping and admiring. I felt the few questions I had were an annoyance to him.

If you like churches you can pay extra to see the inside of St. Peter’s basilica (or queue for a couple of hours) but that was a bit lost on me. The outside is very impressive though and that is free.

Agree with motownkid in a way though. The tour I was on felt like a bit of a cash grab.

100% buddy. Plenty of other sites to see in Rome apart from the Vatican.

Just to add, if my tour guide was better/more suited to me it could have been worth it. I may have just been unlucky

I regularly review cafés, hotels and entertainment venues on Google. Usually just 2-3 sentences with a couple of photos. Good places deserve a praise.
