Whatcha all lol'ing about??
Jump to: Newest in thread
Some days it feels like every other message (plus some) ends with "lol" like it's a punctuation and has lost its original meaning.
Why do you do it lads? Are you nervous? Are you literally laughing out loud while trying to flirt? What's your intention here?
Or do you just type it without thinking?
Genuinely curious. Lol 😅 |

I don't use lol but I definitely use smiley faces more than I'd like at times I catch myself doing it.
I think its just part of our us of text as a form of communication that at times sentences can feel unfinished without the abbreviation or emoji at the end.....imo 🤷♂️
Aww dammit |

I use lol and emojis too often, irritates me. Otherwise people don’t understand when I’m just messing about as they can’t hear my tone of voice or see the cheekiness in my eyes 🤭
Gotten myself into trouble by not using the darn emoji’s before so unfortunately they’ll have to stay for me - Mrs |

I think you'll find lads is a very typical Cork word for a group of people. |

I think it takes a tiny bit of the pressure off whatever is being said. It kinda makes light of the sentence and gives the option of backtracking as if it's a joke, even if it isn't. Like a kite-flying sentence that can be interpreted differently depending on the other persons reaction?
"Wanna tickle my asshole with your tongue lol?"
"No way, you're disgusting"
"You took me seriously?, I was only joking, see I put a lol there" |

".....lads...?....oh dear..not another man bashing thread..?
I think its a fairly gender neutral descriptive in Ireland
✌️......really?...im sceptical tbh.."
That's ok, and I also maintain my thoughts on the matter. |

Even if it is ment as a gender specific term... they didn't say all lads.
Its clearly addressed to the people that do use lol or such.
There are plenty of threads that unfairly demonise men on here... this one I'm afraid was a bit of a stretch though |

Definitely this for me. I used to use !!! excessively before emojis were invented. They add tone.
I'm ambivalent about 'Lol', sometimes it has it's place (like hahaha I get you and am genuinely amused!) but often it's unnecessary.
I'm a speed reader so thankfully my brain skims and dumps lols before they can bother me 😆 |

To clarify the intent for the post- Tiny hit the nail on the head. It's the excessive use of "lol" in contexts where it makes absolutely no sense that is head scratching.
"How are you lol"
"Your Mrs is hot lol"
"Wanna meet for a coffee lol"
These are common messages we receive and yes, by mostly men.
This is not a men-bashing thread in the slightest by the way. If you took a moment to check, you'd find we obviously love men 😂
Lol |
