It was sad to see a democratically elected representative ejected from her own Parliament to save Charley's blushes.

That's a bit simplistic.
I agree with her points.
But if you allow outbursts like that in Parliament without ejections then chaos will ensue.
She hasn't had her elected position taken from her

She is democratically elected as a voice for those that she represents.
Well done I say to her for standing up for her principles.
Shame on that pampered buffoon for trying to lord it over ordinary hard working people who are well capable of governing themselves and have no need for a monarch to reign over them. |

Again I don't completely disagree...
But order also has to be maintained.
There are lots of elected officials who may have run on emotive platforms. Outbursts can happen but need to be managed as such so that they don't happen for mundane subjects |

Did Charles commit genocide? Has he been lording it over the Australians? Is there not a process already underway facilitating the return of Aboriginal artefacts held in British (and Irish) museums?
Did the last referendum in Australia return a vote to remain part of the Commonwealth? Did Australians not overwhelming vote against giving more political rights to indigenous people and against amending their constitution to recognise First Nations people?
Perhaps Ms Thorpe is levelling her anger at the wrong person 🤷♀️ |

.......
No, Charley wouldn't have the balls to commit anything.
But the monarchy that he represents did in many lands over many centuries to build their empire and live in luxury in their palaces.
Strip Charley down to his boxers and he is no different from any ordinary man. What right has he to see himself as being privileged and to put himself above others.
Royalty as an institution is an insult to ordinary hard working people whose taxes go to support a class that make no worthwhile contribution to society.

Ah, so we're holding everyone to account for the sins of the fathers, yes?
And if historical genocide is an awful thing, why are you lambasting Charles for "not having the balls" to do it?
Let's not forget that colonisation was not the preserve of the British during a time when the Spanish, Portuguese, French, Dutch et al were traversing the world discovering "new lands".
And again, Australians voted in favour of remaining part of the commonwealth in the last referendum. And it will come to the table again, as it has done for many countries that were formerly part of the British Empire because of the will of the people

If you had a referendum in Britain tomorrow the majority would vote to keep the royal family |

People also vote for Trump, SF, Putin, Netanyahu, The Greens, FG, FF, PBP etc. etc.
Nothing is as strange as people, but nothing is as strong as democracy.
Eventually the majority see the light and the things of the past which have no relevance in the future will be consigned to history where they belong. |

Because as you mentioned democracy is strong and resulting from a democratic vote Australia retained a monarch.
You are just picking and choosing which democratic results to respect now 🤷♂️
Do I agree with monarchs? Nope
But the fact is they voted to retain one for the moment |

The most recent referendum showed a remaining rump of support for the British Royal Family because of the shared experience in both World Wars.
But there has been a significant demographic shift in Australia over the past 10 years. The influx of Irish, Eastern European and Asian immigrants and a more outward looking young Australian population will have a significant influence on the result the next time such a referendum takes place. |
