White collar job rather than blue collar. Legs under a desk usually, and no dirt under the nails, believe they need more discretion than a blue collar worker, or say it in hopes to attract other white collar workers. |

"When a profile states "professional couple"...what does that mean exactly??"
To me ,a saying like that , reeks of Elitism,in other words they'll only meet other " professional" 🙄🙄 people, but to me any one that works & gets paid is a professional, no matter what occupation, they're getting paid & anyone that gets paid is a " professional ", tbh when l see " professional " anywhere online l just smile to myself |

I would say "professional couple" in their profile is a persnal preference by them as to how they want to present themselves.
Any idea of what that means is only a guess and not an informed opinion on my part and others. Any judgement I would make would say more about me than the "professional couple". Professional as an expression of identity does not intimidate me or make me feel lessened. Does nothing to me really. live and let live.
professional = I'll trade my skills for your money. |

"Notions😅"
They probably want nice hotels and a nice coffee shop to meet at alright
And don’t expect immediate responses , availability or conversations during office hours
Discretion likely to be prioritised
Some of the above probably falls into the notions category but it’s all ok really
I used to have professional in my profile lol |

There’s a lot of animosity on the forum towards profiles utilising the term Professional - it routinely is raised as an issue / bug bearer - however, conversely, a lot of pride is taken in asserting oneself as a Tradesman in forum threads; this thread being a case in point. The contrary doesn’t happen to best of our knowledge on the forums. |

It doesn't really mean anything I think.
'We have jobs that are not compatible with our lifestyle being public knowledge' is my interpretation.
I feel like it bothers some people because there's an assumption that people who write it have more to loose. Which might well be true in some cases. |

I love how some people will go on threads and call out half the site for being judgemental and not knowing anyone else's life experience.
And then will make assumptions and rip people to shreds for a completely innocuous label someone uses to describe themselves on their own profiles.

It's obviously mean to convey someone of a higher social class than other working class people.
That's why it's used in so many house share ads
" would suit professional man or woman " is still used when letting rooms in houses as a landlord feels they'd treat his property better than a non professional
In Ireland we still have a thing about people of a higher class than you being up their own arse so that's why the general merriment about people using the word on their profile |

Professional = we cannot do our jobs and earn a living if one party to our work decisions (legal, statutory and financial) has seen us naked and is privy to our personal sexual secrets. It’s not about embarrassment in going to work if known we’re swingers, it’s about breaching ethics in executing our work duties if known that we’re swingers.
Until society can do without Judges, Arbitrators, Adjudicators, positions bound by Oaths, any Statutory Decision Makers with powers of authority (that could upset one party to the decision) etc. - or until swinging and kink is accepted as non taboo in society - you’ll just have to accept “Professional” as a loose term used by some to convey their requirement for added/ extreme discretion and that the basis for this is work related, rather than say public profile for instance. |

There was a really interesting thread on mumsnet about middle class people being "actors" and upwardly mobile, with examples of people who were (god forbid) builders or trades people, buying up property and getting rich (back in the day 1960s 1970s). Those newly rich people, their kids grew up wealthier and maybe with different accents and what was perceived to be airs and graces, above their "station".
The general consensus, after much discussion, was : there has been a huge amount of social mobility in the last 50 years. Even more, If you go back 100 years: 95% of people were working class with unsteady access to food, and less access to education.
So, the vast majority of us(95%), whether educated to masters level or following a more practical route, all come from working class roots, a couple of generations back. People change, evolve, adapt, that's what we are supposed to do.
Social mobility triggers a lot of backlash, people can resent what they perceive to be airs and graces, but it's normal for social norms to evolve and most of the time the snobbery and reverse snobbery is caused by our own insecurities and defensiveness.
Professions such as doctors and lawyers were looked down on by the aristocracy, because those people had to work for a living, and not swan about on their huge estates with staff to manage them.
I think the idea of being a professional person is changing, as society changes. No need for anyone to be impressed by the term or to feel it's used to out anyone.
It might simply mean "I m a locum doctor in the A&E ward and I don't want the whole world to know my business" or " I m a junior banker and if my use of FAB came out I might not get a promotion".
If you are a builder or trades person or self employed butcher, you might still value your privacy but it will be for slightly different reasons. |

The term clearly has different meanings for different people. We don’t use the term as we don’t feel the need to. What we do for a living has no bearing on what we choose to do in our private lives, they are separate things. We don’t choose to meet with people based on what they may do for a living or where it might rank according to the traditional and often old fashioned views of society. The level of discretion we give and would expect in return is the same for anyone we meet. For people who do use the term, that’s their call. It’s their profile so they have the choice to describe themselves how they wish. It says more about them than it doesn’t which is only an advantage for others as the more info you can extract from a profile the better. It’s up to others to put a value on it, maybe they see it as a green flag, maybe a red flag. We wouldn’t see it as either because we would take no notice of it as we treat everybody in the same way no matter what they do for a living, well unless they work for Revenue maybe 😋 (joke). Actually, it might be good to have friends on the inside of Revenue… 😇 |

Yes bog up their own arse is the perfect way to describe it , To describe yourself and your needs as professional in this context implies you have an ego and are egotistical Egotism is more about behavior and personality traits, often associated with vanity and narcissism
Now the terms working class middle class etc have been replaced with the team social economics status !!
A way of describing people based on their education, income, and type of job. Socioeconomic status is usually described as low, medium, and high. People with a lower socioeconomic status usually have less access to financial, educational, social, and health resources than those with a higher socioeconomic status.
But to " diagnosis " your self can't be an indicator of egotism as such diagnosis it's normally done by looking down your noise at you neighbour because you have new knickers and a new car I find such people really amusing because of such vanities

People can put whatever they want on their profile as it is THEIR profile. A professional job could be bank, public service, Doctor or anything like that so I really don't see the issue. If you don't like a profile for whatever reason, just pass it by.
It maybe was written to help describe the person and not always as a 'I am in a great job' type thing. Not everyone is expert at writing eye catching profes especially if they are new and don't follow the forums for 'expert' advice!
I have yet to see a profile saying they are a grave digger, work in a funeral parlour or sewage cleaner, but am sure there may be some on the site. I am sure this would be judged as well by some!
No matter what you do, it is the person that counts and their job shouldn't.

My reading is that a professional is someone with a professional qualification, ie a qualification requirement to work in a regulated profession (eg, electrician, architect, doctor, estate agent etc).
Is listing ‘professional’ on your profile pretentious? Possibly. Is ‘what do you do for work’ one of the most common questions people receive when getting introduced? Probably. Do people on swingers sites have ‘types’ - including tradesmen, men in suits, secretarys, nurses, high powered women? Definitely.
So adding professional to a profile to me just adds a layer of information that others might find helpful. If it brings out a negative reaction to the reader, then you probably weren’t going to be a good fit anyway, so it’s done its job?
I really don’t know why some people get so worked up. The judgmental nature of this thread is a perfect example of why people in Ireland still feel the need to hide their faces, ensure anonymity, and walk in fear of getting outed.
Just let people be themselves and if someone seems a bit stuck up for your taste just move on instead of jumping to conclusions and spitting vitriol. Nothing grinds my gears more than class shite. Fab should be a safe haven. |

in my opinion "professional couple" means people (company) who meet for one purpose (like in business) This means that meetings take place without any personal or emotional involvement, they are full of respect and professionalism, they follow the rules and keep their distance, personal or emotional factors are excluded, they are not looking for friendship, you may not even like each other, but you "work" well together means a goal completed successfully (you have good fun together) that's all. Goodbye |
