I can remember when the pints changed to 3 quid a pint and the uproar that came with it, can also remember that Stella was an extra quid a pint because of its strength and most of the bar staff would limit how many you could buy per night |

In the old days you met someone went into town to the pictures and ran for the bus home after dropping her to her bus stop
You'd made your arrangements for your next date
If something happened you couldn't get in touch because no one had a phone
That's why people got stood up under Clerys clock |

I was talking to someone about before phones in houses and they were telling me, there was a phone box, people used to ring it hoping some would answer and know down to the house of the person they wanted to talk to. That’s how my folks dated. No Snapchat then. Ps I hate Snapchat! |

Then if you got a home phone in and rang her you had to hang up after a few minutes in case they missed an important call

For 3 quid I could get a pint of Guinness, 10 john player blue and a 20p phone call home to tell Ma to get Da to collect me, as I had no bus fare home which I think was 45p in Dublin. Mother's always seemed to answer the phones only back then.
1989.
I stopped smoking, still have a pint, and just as broke.

1 cent/p for a jelly or chewing gum. 20cent mixup was loads, and a macaroone bar for like 10cent. And those small fizzy orange drinks, forget the name, but we're in every goody bag you got at a party. |

We used to look after our friends video player while they were on holidays, in case their house was broken into. They lived 30 miles from us. We ld collect it and have it for two weeks.
The howls of laughter, making people go backwards (rewinding) or fast forwarding.
Renting videos from the smelly video store, and having to return them the next day. |

Only 2 of our neighbours had house phones and everyone knew the numbers so if someone was stuck somewhere or in an accident or worse, those neighbours were the ones getting the 2am phonecalls and having to go knocking doors to inform the parents.
There was a public phone box that made suspicious sounds when you picked up the handset because it was obviously tapped due to it's location in the middle of the most highly fortified area in Europe.
Walking through that twice a day on the way to and from school and either getting your schoolbag searched or asked by the soldiers to get them sweets or biscuits in the local shop and you could keep the change.
The scraper on the windowsill to scrape the ice off the inside of the window so you could look out in the morning.
Getting the milk bottles in before the birds pecked the foil top off to get the cream. |

The slide was hotter than the surface of the sun in the summer. 🛝
Mix tapes. You knew he was into you if you got one of those.
Getting photos developed after a night out. Out of the 24 prints, 7 would be blurry, 3 would be obscured with a hand and the rest would make you question your choices for the rest of your life.
Bacardi Breezers. I can't look at one. 🤢🤕 |

My dad had a small ford car with pvc seats
4 of us on the back seat with no seat belts sliding all over the place
In the summer the seat would burn your legs
In the winter the seat would give you frost bite
Dinner was once a day
He ate what you were given or you got no dinner
When microwaves came in you managed to reheat your dinner at a different time

I used to live in the countryside and we actually had a “video man” call every Friday evening in his van and you could hire videos from him for the week 😂. The parents then would ask him if he had any “special” videos, the bonus ball was when you located their hiding place and got to watch those special videos! You had to make sure to rewind it back to the spot that it stopped at last time before hiding it again 😂 |

Speaking of decorating, when you were doing up one of the rooms in your house you'd put old newspaper up over the window so no-one could see in. I heard on the radio a couple of weeks ago why that was but damned if I can remember |

I lived in the country. Nearest village was 3 miles away and most of the time I walked there and back to get groceries for my Mum or neighbours so I could get sweets with the bus fare lol.
Also worked in the village chippy and in the summer holidays and weekends and though nothing of walking home, in the dark, after the chippy closed, when I was 14 or 15.
Some Sat nights, I used to wrap a fish supper in 5 or 6 layers of newspaper to keep it warm for my Mum and she used to walk in and meet me and we would eat it on the last bit of the walk home.
The ones in school who were allowed out at lunchtime, used to get lots of orders for 10p of Midget Gems or Sports Mixture.
Those were the days lol

Your whites got washed in a Burco Boiler and it only went on once a week
Oh loved Creamola Foam !"

City girl here and as soon as the weather went fine, we use to climb the telegraph poles on the side of the footpath and loop rope 10 feet up and make swings. Between splinter, rope burns and whiplash probably the best fun ever had lol.
The could be 3 swings on a pole at one time,we'd twist the swings around each other to get more whip action lol. Google it lol |

That's not what was told to me as I was a bar manager then and was instructed by higher management to limit sales of Stella and instruct my staff to do the same |

What is significantly different these days than back in your day?

I remember paying £1.82 for a pint of stout.
In UCD when I was there you could get 8 pints for £12. |
