Early next year, I'll be hitting the big milestone of 40.

Over the weekend someone asked me what I wanted to do for it.

I said cinema and meal after.

But what would you/did you do for yours?

Looking for ideas, see if any interest me to change my mind...

Oh no! That's rotten luck. Hope you feeling better now?

Did you manage to celebrate after you got out of hospital at all?

What i would advise is not to be pushed into spending your40th doing something others think you should be doing .Yes its a milestone but celebrate in a way you want to .I went abroad for mine but it was a family holiday that just coincided with my 40 th .Whatever you decide ,enjoy OP !

I'd be happy to do the cinema and food, but was wondering if there was something suggested that I hadn't thought of.

Whatever I do end up doing will be what I would like to do. Have firmly said no to a party in the house so I am having a day!

Feel free to hijack any ideas that might come out of this.

Never know what might tickle the fancy!

Nice. I'd say a lot of people end up going to gigs for their birthdays somehow

The West

I was absolutely miserable when I turned forty and I refused to have a party. I was sitting home alone and all my friends turned up, put up a gazebo in my yard, lit a fire and gave me a bottle of Redbreast 21

Now they're what you'd call real true friends! I hope you enjoyed the night in the end.

Sounds like you have an amazing time. You'll have to try out do it for the next milestone birthday!

Not a bad idea, but I'm a man-child geek so I'd probably just end up doing a tour around Ireland visiting comic, game and toy shops to be honest...

For several years I celebrated my birthday with my Family and a group of close friends, usually 4-5 days holidays somewhere, usually a beach resort.

I think the most important thing is with who you want to celebrate this milestone.

Hmmmm. Could try the UK alright. America is out of the budget though...

That is true, which was why I had my original plan. But sometimes I need to think bigger!
