The lads have gone a bit off topic there with the band and song lyrics OP 🤣. Welcome to the forums |

Their is definitely a decent amount of people not born in Ireland on the site OP.
I can't speak to their experiences though sorry.
Apart from any who met me.. they obviously had the fecking time of their lives.... I mean they all left that's got to be a good sign right? |

You have a fabulous accent. All those lessons you gave us to speak Russian. I still laugh thinking of that night |

"So is single guys problem not ethnicity....."
The people of fab are no different to the general population and there's people that don't like foreign nationals in the real world too.
There's also people that don't give a toss about your nationality but want to know about your personality
Find them which can be hard as a single man |

One here , if the sun shines it’s the most beautiful country in the world, majority of the people are nice and inclusive.
In terms of fabs, some times it is an advantage and some others a disadvantage.
Just struggling to follow my fellow countrymen/women in the Olympics in TV … fortunately the IPad can fill this gap. |

I’ll tell you something OP. I don’t think many foreigners will feel free to come to the Irish forum to express their opinions….
My personal experience is ok so far. It can be annoying sometimes though. But in an “Open minded” community like fab, I expected more to be honest.
I’m just too opinionated for a brown woman |

Do you experience hassle because of your colour or because you're an opinionated woman or do you get both |

Foreigner here, less than a year in Ireland and just few months in fabswingers.
I don’t see any issue with the fact that I’m a foreigner, went to my first Social last Saturday and felt very welcomed.
I found sometimes topics in the forum difficult to follow if are about Irish culture, places, sports etc. |

"How has your experience been so far OP?
Dud something prompt the topic or general curiosity?"
I haven't been long enough to tell but I would say it's very much similar to the "outside world". I am based in Northern Ireland and I think people here in general tend to be a bit more "local" which is understandable.
People meet their partners and friends so early and tend to carry them throughout their lives so it's difficult to be open to something new. I think it is just the way it is here in Northern Ireland.

You're still very new.
My personal experience is completely opposite, I found it very easy to make new friends with my colleagues when I first arrived, then making friends with their friends and just expanding my social circle over the years. I have not experienced anyone being not open to a friendship with a foreigner just because they're a foreigner.
Fab and people I have met on here are exactly the same in my personal experience.
Wouldn't agree with "try something new" comment though as I don't see myself as "something new" to try.

The "something new" was due my lack of vocabulary for a better term.
I think experience is varied. Although I am new to this website, I am not new in NI and have been living here for over 10 years.
What you described I think it's pretty normal but evolving from these type of friendship where people are good to gather for a pint and social to something more solid is really hard here.
A few expats colleagues have said the same and I think it's just it is what it is.

Fab wise I've never been treated like a foreigner. The accent can cause a stirring in the groin area for some, or be a turn off for others. 😆
There's a huge cosmopolitan crowd on fab and I love that. |

Actually I think there are quite a lot of foreigners on Fab, percentage wise... More then you would expect.
24 years ago when I came here if you wanted any hope of a social life it was the pub or nothing, so a lot of people who were new to the culture would seek alternative venues, such as this one, eventually... |

Do you not think the pub is still a big part of social life here? |

In my hometown, there used to be 2 nightclubs, and every second store front was a pub.
Now, there's no night clubs, and only 2 or 3 bars which shut at 12.30 at the weekend.
Night life has definitly declined in recent years |

Very true one of the best clubs in the world was local to us and now it's closed and so have all the others but 1 or 2 and the pubs are rubbish now too. Seems to happened everywhere since after lockown

Yeah I read an article saying how the nighclubs are in decline everywhere in the world. I suppose cost of living crisis, lack of public transport and other factors play a big role. |
