Which would get your vote for a couple of nights away, solo?
I'll be after spending a weekend in North Mayo with a group of pals and as I'm off on annual leave I want to extend my break away.
Leenane or Clifden?
Maybe a night in both places?
Suggestions of activities in the area would be great! Not hiking or the likes!
Thanks in advance. |

Having stayed in both, I would go for Clifden . I think as a solo traveller Clifden gas a lot more to offer in regards to good music, pubs and restaurants. I'm sure you will enjoy yourself whatever you choose. |

Thank you!
Pretty sure Oz trumps Clifden all the same!
Enjoy! |

Depending on what you want. Leenan is beautiful but very quiet,Fantastic drives and countryside and Irelands only fjord at Killary, and waterfall Ashley Falls that featured in the film The Field.Such spectacular scenery around.
Clifden has a lot more restaurants and bars so a nightlife, and plenty surrounding countryside too. Sky road.. Omey Island etc Basically if you like people about the place then Clifden |

Thanks very much for your reply!
Definitely a people person, infact I thoroughly enjoy people watching!
Unlikely I'd have the courage to go to any of the pubs on my own though so that bit wouldn't bother me.
Might even take in the 2 while I'm at it, although can't beat spending a couple of nights in the one spot just to settle in and relax. |

If you stay in Leenane you can avail of sea baths there, Kylemore abbey not far away and beautiful beaches around Letterfrack area as well as National Park. Westport not too far either. If you like art Clifden is the place to go, probably not a million miles away from the arts festival being on there. |

Lovely, thank you! Yes, I can put on my culture vulture hat as required! Ha! Must look up the arts festival dates etc.
Never done a sea bath, not too sure it'd be for me but only one way to find out I suppose... |

SEA BATHS.. IE Sea Bath are a real luxury. Very relaxing and great for the skin and health. Not actually in the sea,but sea and warm sea water usually in a porcelain bath. Definitely something to do at least once in your life |

"Drive along the fjord and visit Leenane but I'd stay in Clifden, have the whole coast to explore - get the ferry to inisbofin "
Been looking at taking a ferry out to one of the islands alright. Couldn't decide between them. Your recommendation is Inishboffin? |

Thanks! Not sure how much I'll indulge in the music being on my todd but definitely think Clifden is where I'll spend a couple of nights anyway. |

Absolutely, but you won't go wrong, loads of stunning scenery/beaches. It all depends how much time you have for driving/exploring |

I'll be in the area from a Sunday to the Wednesday. Probably spend one night in Leenane and onto Clifden for 2...

Inisbofin is definitely worth a trip out for them day, as others have said Clifden is more lively than leenane but aren't a million miles from each other.
One of my best Fab experiences was out in leenane one day when I got a wink from a visiting lady, within an hour we'd met for coffee and dessert |

Clifden is bigger and probally has the better selection of night life activites
Check out Real Adaventures for some outdoor activities suck as kyacking or coastaleering I done both during the week and were well run and reasonable priced
Leanaun is beautiful and just outside it theres a chuck wagon set up in a carpark with the most amazing food a great place for lunch |

Thanks for this!
Unlikely I'll be partaking in much of the night life but it certainly seems Clifden is the better option all round.
That place you're talking about is The Misunderstood Heron. Fabulous alright. |
