Good morning This is more of a rant, maybe get a discussion going. I have noticed it's cheaper to jump on a plane and go somewhere for the weekend that to drive to kerry or particularly Dublin. Three nights in Dingle same as seven in lanzarote..... I know the hotels are full so maybe it's just me. |

It's a first world problem to be fair. Not to mention the damage all those flights do to the environment, and the fact that the inhabitants of popular tourist destinations are starting to kick back at being overwhelmed by tourists |

Hi Mr here finally off on holidays
Anyway! I used to get 3 nights bb in donegal 2 evening meals single for €350 to go fishing! Same week may every year for last 31 years, this year 2 nights bb only was €395 so minus 1 night, 2 meals and 45 quid more! Might as well say doubled in price! And nothing does be on, no shows, fairs, Nada. As op said add few quid I can get a week away for the same. |

Hi ya, that's not the real issue! It's house prices & accommodation that's the problem away! Bars and hotels cannot get staff, rent is too dear! Or not available as people rent out the house or flat for same money for 1 week they get for 1 month locally. Not fighting with you! But that's the actual issue. Since we are off Tuesday on holidays we will go add to it. |

Mr, so most hotels now have government sponsored guests (had to think how to say that politically correct ) Around louth few hotel spots remain, hotels are either fully or partially used up! So available spots are at a premium. Hence they are milking it dry. |

"I priced 3 days in vegas for November yesterday
950 including flights
a little more than dingle but I'd take Vegas. "
What price was it Pa for reference sake?
Direct flights to Vegas is brilliant if you want to do it cheaper stay in a station casino just off the strip, taxi over and your half the accommodation prices |

What's the breakdown between hotel and flights? Is that midweek?
Are the 3 days including travel days?
And also can I come too? |

Agree, it's cheaper to go to PDI for a week than a 2 night party in Ireland. It's insane.
No wonder the locals are going mad with the influx of tourists and mismanagement of tourism accommodation. Same thing starting to happen here. Lots of investors buying up affluent housing in Dublin, locals not able to afford to buy in the local area.
Then other end of the market full too, we are living in weird times. |

"The maths are not adding up, flights taxi hotels cheaper than a long drive and hotel.an old expression comes to mind... Don't bite the hand that feeds you. "
Which is exactly what the hotel industry are doing.
They will the same ones winging in a couple of years wondering where all the foreign tourists are gone... |

"Minimum wage ireland 12.40
Minimum wage spain 08.87
Minimum wage Bulgaria02.85"
Faor enough but forget comparing overseas.
The increase in hotel prices in the last few years far exceeds any increase in a minimum wage, never mind all the over cost of Oving expenses.
And this trend started long before the hotels were being used for direct provision |

Costs for businesses have increased so much here as well, that is part of the reason. I’m in the north and after 17 years in business we close our Cafe at the end of August as wages, rent, food supplies and energy has doubled and trebled in a lot of areas. It isn’t sustainable now for an owner of a local independent to make a living as I know when it is tight in our place it is my partners wage that takes the hit and he is already less than most staff when hours worked are taken into consideration. |

What actually worries me is how far how long can it go on... Is it a case of people just fall by the way side or will it come down to people avoiding the small cafe, bring a small pack lunch to work.... Will it come down to.... Its to expensive to drive to work.... Maybe I'm over thinking. |

Sorry to hear this, and I'm hearing and seeing similar all over the country, a lot of small towns and villages your only choice for food is a garage or the chipper, and this is a disaster for independent tourists who have rented cars to travel around the country |

Oh ffs , aviation account's for 2.5% of co2 in atmosphere. That's the issue with environmentalists, casual statements without any facts . |

Main issue here is cost of living. The minimum wage in Spain and portugal is away less than here so there costs are less . Was,in valencia recently it was 37 euro per person to go into the aquarium. We left and it goes up to over 40 in July August. Hotel prices here are priced on supply and demand. A hotel in Tipp or offaly will be close to half that of one in kerry Galway or Dublin. |
