I've been looking at hotels to book for a weekend away, bit of me time but they're all so expensive!!! It's really pissing me off! I know I could book Airbnb but I prefer the facilities of a hotel.... First World problems I know

It's gone beyond a joke - mind you, AirBnB pricing is every bit as bad if not worse.

I can't remember the last time I stayed in a hotel somewhere in the country that was just for a break away (not for a wedding etc) - if I have a few days off work now I tend to book myself a reasonably priced flight somewhere. Sure, more effort involved but I get to visit somewhere new and it's much more bang for my buck.

Weekends are usually silly money. The way you say me time I'm guessing it may be a solo break....well that's almost unworkable with the prices atm. Understandably hotels want to max their price per room....just a shame us solo travellers have to suck it up.

For some reason I don't feel confident enough to fly somewhere on my own, mentally I really need a break. Don't know what to do....

Does it have to be a weekend or could you swing a few days off midweek?

Maybe a really luxurious spa day. Still nice money but not as mental as the hotel overnight. Might just refresh ya.

What about a ferry over to the UK or is it just a general confidence travelling abroad thing? I was the same a few years back but after the first trip (Krakow) I've loved it.

You may get better value up north either.

If you are searching booking.com, you can just put Ireland in the search, and filter by cost and also use the filters for hotels only, not B&Bs/self catering etc. Something may just catch your eye.

Doesn't have to be a weekend, anytime would be great.

Spa day sounds like heaven

Dublin west

If you can go midweek you will get much better value and the hotels are quieter so more comfortable.

Tuesday to Thursday is the best value

I tend to book up North for a night or two on my own, wayyyyyy cheaper than down here, ive a fantastic Excective Suite booked for a weekend for myself in October less than €300 B&B

I've found Sunday night to be the cheapest night in a hotel.

Mon to Fri the corporates fill it and then Fri/Sat the socialites fill it!

Also, if considering a spa always worth booking in just to use the Thermal Suite. Way cheaper than a treatment yet you get to enjoy the ambience and all the different pools etc.

We tend to go up North too for a weekend away or a handy flight to UK def much cheaper than booking hotels down south.

Maybe even the spa day with a B&B...

Curious to know how you get on so do let us know here.

I've a couple of days off planned for myself in October and not enough time to do anything mad or go abroad so will be in the same boat scouring for decent deals close to home.

Yeah but the only downside to that is you're in Mullingar

I kid, had some good nights down that way!

Grand spot….is it the hotel just off the motorway? That’s actually had a facelift and a very nice spot. Couple of good walks round the lakes and few good pubs in town….ya could do worse!

Lot to be said for having a tent camper or car that can fold down the back seats for sleep.

Coast rosslare strand in Wexford at 278 for 2 nights ( sun and moon) in late June including breakfast looks like reasonable value

Always easier for a guy to travel alone. Don't get hasseled as much as women do.

Very limited mid week availability but Leenane Hotel way over west seems to have single room rate of 85 quid b&n which is huge value to be fair. Only problem is it looks like they don't have even 2 consecutive nights available for the next few months. Could be worth giving them a quick buzz.
