Darkness into Light

Somewhere out there

Who's doing the Darkness into Light walk this Saturday? It is a great cause so even if you don't do the walk, you could donate instead.

Everybody knows somebody who has died through suicide, let's think of the families who will never get the answers they seek. Xx

It's ok to not be ok. Xx

Have done every Darkness into Light since first in Phoenix Park in 2009. Sadly I have lost many friends to suicide and have suffered with the shitty condition that is depression. I would encourage everyone on fab to respect all and treat others with respect as they would like to be treated when they message you. You never know what goes on in people's minds behind closed doors and minds that are fragile. Sadly a number of those I have lost have been friends from fab. So if you do decide to walk or contribute do it with a clean soul and if not do an act of random kindness or two here for someone else that you never know might make their week or even their year. Stay kind to everyone you never know the result of your actions. Love to all regardless of gender age status size colour etc etc etc. Respect to all.

Some of the biggest bullies, show up, doing this walk,.... Walk by night and bully by day.

I just donate directly to mental health charities. So many sanctimonious hypocrites (not on this thread, but in real life).

I've done lots of walks for various charities including the local hospice and Childline but I hadn't even heard of Darkness into Light until it was mentioned on here about 4 or 5 years ago so I don't know if it has always been advertised up here or not?

I've never done it and won't be doing it this year either because there are only so many causes I can contribute to but good luck and well done to anyone taking part.

What WILL happen is due to local elections every single candidate, and TD will show up to the event! The weather is forecast to be brilliant. Normally as 1 poster put it they end up finished at a local shop and breakfast rolls times 500 please. But the pictures start then of "Look at me" it's not a political football situation but it will be used as one. Regardless of everyone's motives, or feelings towards "THEM" most do it to remember loved ones, friends, neighbours& work colleagues we have lost to suicide.

Take your child's phone and add them to it, teach them from an early age to give it to their friends. Just because your child is safe and loved does not mean they won't have to go through loosing a friend.

Everyone looses someone close to illness & cancers etc.. suicide just hurts different, I'm not saying all death is not painful but those who know what I mean will understand. You will never get answers and you just have to accept this. Every single time you hear of another person lost you will remember that phone call.

I am not a huge supporter of Pieta House or a majority of Irish charities for various reasons.

However, for your own personal benefit, and to help you recognise and approach people that might need help I would highly recommend doing the SafeTALK course. It helps individuals to recognise invitations from those that need help and to ask the hard, personal questions.

As far as I am aware it's free, and they also go to businesses and clubs to train.

I lost my son 6 years ago to suicide..he was the most charming and funniest man and everyone loved him he was a pure Joker...when it happened nobody including myself could believe it and it affected all his friends and the local village where we live... We will never know why he did it or what he was going through as he never showed any signs of depression or talked about anything that was bothering him...we will never get the answers as he has taken them with him...so no matter how you think a person is happy go lucky with them self sometimes you just can't tell what's behind the visage of there happeniness..

Even a conversation on Darkness into Light gets a conversatiom going. Good work OP.

Thanks, I know people who have taken their own life and also my brother attempted to take his own life a good few years ago.... He's dealing with a lot of issues still, won't go into it, but at least he's still alive....
