I don't get that many messages these days because of filters and a extensive block list. But this week I got a couple of messages from guys saying I look great for my age and I didn't have the body of a 48 year old. I'm curious though what should a body look like at that age! They are meaning it as a compliment of sorts but I'm not ready to be sent out to pasture yet! As long as there's life in this old slut I'll be still in the Fab old folks home saying let me slip in my false teeth for the Gluck Gluck 9000 or maybe you prefer if I didn't slip them in  |

Genuinely I think it's a compliment..though put across awkwardly especially younger lads. I mean it's a step up from "fine chassis on ya for the miles on the clock" but for what it'd worth I think they're saying you've got it in spades. |

I have definitely done my fair share of failed compliments, as others said, it's probably not intentional.
If people's ages weren't shown on their accounts, I wonder how many would be accused of being 10 years younger or older. |

I agree it's often this, or schmoozing for the ride, or fear of words with historically negative connotations
I often get "don't put yourself down" because they've read the bit in my profile that says I'm a wee fat woman. When I tell them I'm not putting myself down that's usually met with "you're not fat, your gorgeous/hot/sexy". Ermmmm are the two things mutually exclusive? Can I not be both gorgeous/hot/sexy AND fat? 
Now I'm on the verge of being old too - people's heads will explode when I add that to my profile

I get told I don't look my age and I often say I don't act my age but I'm not really sure how I'm supposed to look or act.
I read recently that half the actors playing nursing home residents in Cocoon were in their 40s and Clive Dunn was 48 when he played Corporal Jones in Dad's Army.
People in their 40s and 50s dressed older in previous generations so it's all relevant. |

Ive seen some fabbers on here and at socials recently who were in their 60's and I genuinely thought they looked amazing
Some people just lucky with their genes I suppose
But then again I'm 59 so maybe my brain is moving towards the older age group anyway |

You look great regardless of age...
I think men are fixated with age so much that most of those saying you look great for 48 are the ones who grow up watching TV in where adults had grau hair and so on...

Age is but a number....
But I have vanilla friends that were bragging about a one night love session implying that my male friend considered he was one hell of a lover, until he discovered the lady had chronic asthma.
Alas, one female colleague then chimes in that she's deeply offended as her daughter has a chronic asthma condition which apparently has no resemblance to vigorous activities.

The 90s were 30 years ago, they feel like 10 years ago. 50 back then was grandma style. 50 now looks better than 30 did then .
