Driving is a chore
Jump to: Newest in thread
I hate driving, i realise it's become a chore that I'll try and avoid.
Anyone else the same?
I used to enjoy going for a Sunday spin and a bit of exploring off the beaten track but the thought of it now gives me dread instead |

I like driving but don't like to be a passenger. I changed my car last June and have 49 k done since |

I used to drive 1200 miles a week without crossing the border and it never bothered me but it meant I didn't go for a spin anywhere on days off.
Even now I have no problem driving long distances but sometimes can't be arsed with shorter trips. |

I drive about 35k to 40k a year for work and while I don’t mind it when I’m not working I tend to avoid driving when possible. It’s one thing if you’re meeting up with friends or if you e an appointment but don’t really do random trips anymore. Even using public transport to avoid driving |

Yep same, I walk, cycle, bus or train if I can to avoid getting in the bloody car |

"Love driving, music playing away,on a weekend away or a day trip up north
Dont have passengers very often but its nice when I do
Haven't been on a bike or a train in decades " I'm the same.
Every Friday evening driving to Cork listening to block rocking beats volume up. Lately stone Roses and cat Stevens seem to be my driving music. |

I've just passed my theory, and about to apply for the learner licence and lessons. Very nervous, but can't wait for the independence I'm going to gain.
People who drive forget what it's like to constantly have to rely on public transport/walking to go everywhere. Doing my weekly shop I have to bring a backpack and massive shopping bags, breaking my back!
I can't buy large bottled water or things that are excessively heavy or bulky as I can't carry them.
Don't take it for granted! |

Good reminder you are right. I remember those days, but at least I was stronger then!
Good luck with your lessons xx |

Love driving. Great freedom. Music or podcast on. Any condition- love the challenge.
Not enjoyable if you’ve a ton on mind n tight on time or with a back seat driver, or someone who never stays quiet …. I see why James Bond invented the ejection seat |

I love driving when there's no other drivers around. There seem to be less and less people on the roads, who actually know how to drive.
If we lived close enough I would happily walk anywhere though or use public transport if there was any.

If I’m feeling particularly generous I’ll give the chauffeur the day off because I’m sound like that.
I enjoy driving but it sometimes depends on what I’m driving, if it’s the daily driver because the weather is muck and I have to go to work I tend to enjoy it less.
In general, less rain = less wheels = more enjoyable.
I also enjoy driving if I land on the fairway…. |

I used to drive but I hated it so gave it up both for health and for myself . Easy to use public transport in Dublin and walking is great for mental health and easily done |

I changed to an automatic this year too and once as long as I can afford it I’ll never go back. |

You known when you're playing a video game, and you finally level up, and get the ability to travel at super speed, or carry infinite items, or something like that.
That's how I felt when I got my first car in my 30s. Like my carachter leveled up, and now i have super powers. I can carry half a ton on my back and travel at super speed ro where ever i wish.
Driving is such a ginormous privilege. Its crazy how quickly you become accustomed to it, and it becomes a chore. |

"It maybe a chore to you Rubs but its no fucking hoovering the poxy stairs!! "
That's a fact! Why I live in a bungalow hahaha.
My last car was an automatic actually and indeed going no-clutch does make the whole thing more bearable. |

I prefer rural driving to driving around suburban areas and town and city centre.
I love going off the beating track, I live quite rural in Clare it's just nice driving those lonely country roads looking for adventure.
I've a few nice spots where I can sit under a hawthorn tree and all alone, flask of tea few sandwiches, Stanley flask all the way I'm high maintenance ha ha |

I enjoy driving kind of a happy place until other drivers ruin it! terrible passenger though my foot keeps going for the brake pedal Latest car is auto and it does make the drive more enjoyable overall however you would miss dropping a gear or 2 for some raw power and hearing the engine roar |

Love heading out on the road solo, tunes blaring, put a few hundred Kms on the clock, clear the mind, take in a bit of the scenery around the country,
Shudder at the thought of getting an EV, almost soulless digital controlled driving. |

No, no, too late now, I got the emoji, I can read between the lines, message received ….
Having said that, I do seem to have announced the incorrect winners in the Grand National thread recently so it’s probably a glitch with the site, I’ll report it to admin…………

Contrary to popular belief, they don’t float either…… , FYI……

I remember the time I made the fairway around 2009/2010, memorable in itself obviously, but I also had to move to allow an aeroplane to land……. |

Love a good road trip.
Also love the challenge of driving around Dublin city centre. Figuring out all the road layouts/changes that are ongoing. Some of my pals can't think of anything worse!
Only downside to driving for me is the price of petrol! |

Agreed! It’s as if people don’t have as much patience on the road since covid. I piss many a driver off by sticking to the speed limit lol

I don't know is it that we are getting older and more cautious on the roads but every day I'm out I see people driving like assholes.
Why is everyone so impatient at the moment?
Or was it always like that?

If my reckless teenage driving is anything to go by, I reckon it was always that way.. life changes and getting older puts things in a different perspective. I've certainly grumbled more at things now than I used to..

"Kids these days..." " It's not the kids the amount of bad drivers of every age at the moment is crazy. I see it everywhere towns city's on the open road. We can all make mistakes but everyone is in a hurry and think they are the only one that matters.
