There was a church in Cork where a priest and student priest were outed by the rebel bishop Pat Buckley for having sex on the altar a few years ago.
There was also the summer where the news papers outed the student priests in Maynooth college for what appears to be a load of MM swinging.
Personally I don't think I would have sex on an altar. As for the fantasy of a confession box - I don't think it wise. Sex in public has a thrill of being caught, but in a confession box someone could open a door with no warning and no escape route. |

Well maybe not fuck, but I'd be open to thought of two people deeply in love consummating it on sacred ground of an institution that should be all about love and family and the union of two souls. |

There are more disrespectful 12 year olds here than I thought.
If you don't have religion that's grand but be an adult about it and show a little respect to those who do.
I often wonder when questions like this pop up if the answers would be the same if it was a synagogue or a mosque or do people see this just as a revenge fantasy? |

It was a question put out there by an adult, to adults!! If you cant handle it, dont throw yout rattle out of the pram.
I was curious to peoples thoughts, I'm Irish, living in Ireland, why would i need to bring in other religions into the question? Are you trying to point score? If you are that religious, surely we are all living in sin, swinging? No? |

So what you're saying is that you only wanted people to agree it was a good idea and then chose to ignore all the women above who said definitely not to have a dig here.
You may not be aware but there are actually synagogues and mosques in Ireland too.
I'm not into point scoring and I didn't mention sin at all. I'm not religious.
I mentioned respect as did others. Respect for people who have different beliefs.
That's one of the problems with some people here.
They think that swinging is about forcing their fantasies on members of the public without consent or in using sex to make a statement. |

Agreed, it's about basic respect for the boundaries and beliefs of others. Something a lot of people here are clearly lacking |

There's a difference though.
Libraries and theatres etc are basically just public spaces.
Churches and places of worship are much more and that's why I asked if it was a revenge fantasy?
The fact that no-one starts a thread asking if it's a hard no to having sex in a library or theatre shows that even non believers know that a church is more taboo.
It's not just another public space.
It's also got nothing to do with being caught or only offending those who are aware of what you are doing.

How did I call you a 12 year old?
You haven't given your opinion on the scenario so I had no idea if you were in favour of it or not.
That was aimed at those who said it was a good idea.
I said the complete lack of respect in doing something like this is like a 12 year old being a naughty boy just to get one over on someone.
You don't need to run anything by me at all unless you don't actually want a discussion on it?

Oh right. I consider libraries and theatres more sacred than theological sites. The latter are just more agreed upon by the masses (no pun) as having deeper significance in society. That's all fine. If the original question was whether any of those is a hard no for me then the answer is no. |

The church deserves respect? Given the treatment of the Irish people at the hands of the church, I'm surprised the buildings weren't burned down already. They were quick enough to burn hotels due to house refugees, and blow up statues. |

Against the Catholic church. Even some of the comments here about priests doing it so that makes it ok apparently.
The church don't deserve respect. Those who use the church buildings as a place of worship do. |

You are confusing a church building and the Church as an institution.
I'm not religious but yes it would be an issue for me as I've already said.
People use those buildings every day as part of their faith and anyone thinking this scenario isn't sticking two fingers up at those people needs to give their head a wobble.
As I asked above, why do people never suggest fucking in other places of worship?
Is it because they don't want to offend Moslems or Jews or Sheikhs or is it that they are afraid to announce it?
If in some peoples eyes church buildings really are so insignificant and should be treated as such then what exactly is the point of this thread?
Why did the op ask if people would fuck in a church if he didn't know already that there could be issues? |

"So your saying there are people here who never went to a church for any of these things..I'm just curious.."
I'm saying nobody needs to involve a church in their lives for these things. Our kids are not baptised, did not have communion, we were married without any mention of god at all. We walked past a statue of Mary the other day and our smallest was delighted to see it because he thought it was elsa from Frozen. It's perfectly possible (better?) to live a life free of these things. To not believe and still attend is a hypocrisy. |

"People saying church doesn't deserve respect but Still you go there for christning, communions, conformations, weddings, funerals."
I lost 3 close family members in 2023 as well as a lifelong friend.
3 of those people were practicing Catholics when they died.
I'm not but I went to their funerals and I also went to my parents anniversary mass a few months ago and my grandparents anniversary mass yesterday.
I go out of respect for them and what they believed in.
There are pieces of furniture and other items in those churches that are hand made by my father and grandfather going all the way back to 1921.
Those are my connections with the church and church buildings so when people talk about taboo fantasies like this it's disrespectful to those who have gone before us just as it is to those still using the Church.
Then again I'm still struggling to understand what the fantasy actually is for those who say they would?
If it's just a building then what exactly is the fantasy? |

For me it's definitely not a fantasy. I wouldn't have any desire to have sex in a church, anymore than I would in a library. I'll have a nice comfy bed please.
Don't forget that those churches are owned by institutions that owe millions in abuse reparation money to abuse survivors. Assets that were deliberately transferred out of ownership by catholic orders who owed this money, and into different catholic orders... specifically to avoid paying court ordered cash to people that were abused and their families. Those walking into those literal same church buildings should have this information in their heads when they walk in those doors, and consider this when they choose to hand money to the church. These buildings have a shameful history. |

I wouldn't call myself in anyway religious but I do go to funerals, weddings, christenings or confirmation when it pops up, but at no time would I even think of a church for sex out of respect for my parents & grandparents who were church going people, they seen it as a place of worship, and as for some saying all priests are bad for what some done is complete generalisation, it's like saying lots of men done bad shit to women so all men are bad FFS, like everything else there is some great priests out there, buried my mother last year & both priests went above & beyond helping out all while knowing I'm not a regular church goer |

I agree with you. My grandfather had to close his 3rd generation business in the 1950s because of the amount of money owed to him by the parish.
My father's funeral in the late 80s was in a church I helped him rewire just the year before when the parish only paid for the materials and not for our time.
No-one in my entire family has given a penny to the church since the 1980s but some of them were still practicing as are millions of others for their own reasons.
Even though I don't agree with them and will never defend the institution I don't believe anyone should be mocked or belittled for their beliefs.
If they are acting the cunt then yes definitely regardless of what God they follow. |

I 100% agree with you on that. Not everyone is bad, and I would never suggest all were based on the actions of a few. What I said was directed solely to those that were accused and found guilty of the shocking things they did. And I also agree with the point, it's not just one belief, this unfortunately has happened in many places and religious beliefs in my opinion isn't relevant, however wasn't helped by Catholicism and priest having to be celibate. |

It's not just those who abused.. it's those who turned a blind eye, those who moved abusers to new parishes to abuse, those who don't acknowledge that it happened, and those who continue to block paying abuse survivors. I'm sorry to say that is a very significant percentage of members. |
