Anyone fall asleep in extremely fast traffic and wake up on the wrong side of the road to find that there are no cars there now, car still going over 60.
It happened me today coming from the airport in the early morning. Feeling drowsy I had stopped for a short sleep and I went for coffee and then on the road again feeling fine until I woke up on the wrong side of the road.
I have to admit I am bit traumatised by it, thinking about what could have happened, and I think it’s worth sharing. |

Years ago, in late teens, driving into Galway early on a Saturday morning after a very late night, I fell asleep.
Luckily, I passed under a bridge, and the sound of that woke me just as I was heading for the wall! Scared the shit out of me.
I had a bit of a bad experience getting a late holiday flight from Dublin last summer. Flight was delayed a bit, waiting ages to get bus out to car park. Nothing happened on the drive home, but I was very tired and with whole family in the car, I will not be doing that again! |

Not very, because I was just giving someone a lift to the airport and I was on my way back. Can’t believe what happened because I took it really easy day before not doing the stuff I’d usually do on a Sunday. |

The worst part is, you think you'd feel yourself drifting off, but you don't. It's a very scary experience! |

I have an alarm in my car if I close my eyes or the car drifts across the white lines while in self drive but hopefully never have to test them as it can happen so quickly

Yes, it’s so gradual, here’s the thing, I’m not religious at all but I will visit a church because of the calm peace of an empty space, and I did this morning, I always thought there is no harm in expressing wishes through a prayer, why not! I actually think it worked today. |

I'm not religious either but I'd certainly be saying some prayers of thanks after that too OP. |

Well, I was in a small town I never visited before and of course there was a church, it was empty. The incident in my car came afterwards. But, yes you are right, absolutely. |

I’ve a few stories about driving long hours. I used to travel across Europe as a lorry driver. Back then it wasn’t uncommon to do 24 hours without sleeping. Maybe the odd Power Nap in the seat of the lorry so as not to get comfy and fall into a deep sleep. |
