Anyone ever torn rib cartilage/muscle?
I'm not quite sure what it is just that I did something during 2020 and the pain has only goes away if I wear a brace.
Sometimes ice packs help.
Sitting at a desk becomes intolerable but walking and driving are fine.
For anyone that's done it. Does it ever go away on its own? Or do you need surgery to fix it?
I'm not ruling its broken but I think that would hurt more.
Bit of an odd topic for here but I figure no harm in asking. |

I fell into a hole last year and did that. The pain was pure agony. I was unable to sleep. Unable to draw breath. I was given opiods for the pain and anti inflammatory pills. Took near 6 months to be pain free. However I aggravated it last month and I realise it hasn't gone away fully |

I’ve done this intercostal muscle between ribs, I got a few sessions of physio and each time he wrapped me in cling film to keep the gel he used on me. Cleared up in over a month |

100% right you need to establish whats causing the pain. ribs never heal properly but you can work on the muscles to protect the area and build strength there.
Find a sports injury physio, not any general practice. ( no disrespect guys ) |

Best to get that checked OP. I have kidney stones & my last stone got stuck, made my kidney swell & lodge some tissue between 2 ribs. Everytime i walked or ran it felt like something was bouncing inside me. A physio felt a lump & reckoned what it was, went to doc & he sent me to osteopath who confirmed what it was & pushed it out. |

If it was broken in 2020. 2020 was the time to ask. 'If' it was, it may not have set correctly.Bone growth/lump can occur at site of healing.
I've broken/fractured many a bone. Never a rib,so no expert.
If in doubt, check it out. |

Sounds like you need surgery

I've fractured ribs twice and both times it took about six weeks to heal. I needed physio the second time however to help heal the damage between the ribs themselves.
Sounds like you definitely need this looked at as it's been so long but physio might be helpful if a scan doesn't show any physical damage. |

You need an MRI to see what's damaged. Ribs are really sore and hard to get right. I've broken a couple and the pain is horrible. But proper diagnosis is half the battle |

Man that sounds like torture, I cracked one mountain biking when I ran out of talent and it was sore enough, care to tell us the story about the hole you fell into |
