Clampdown on Dodgy Boxes.....

Just asking for a friend!!

Following the well publicised clampdown streaming subscriptions, a "close friend" finds himself in the position of a cancelled service and a redundant Formuler Z10 Pro.

Any recommendations on alternative solutions welcomed.

All solutions will be passed onto my "close friend" in strictest confidence

Kodi on Pi

"Kodi on Pi"

This! I've a pi5 running Kodi with fenlight add-on utilising real-debrid. It's pretty much perfect, 4k HDR movie and TV streaming, and it costs like €3 a month for the real-debrid subscription.

Kodi is a media centre app that works on most platforms including android, windows, Linux etc. You need to install it and then you can add addons to it that connect to streaming services. I use fenlight which is a really good Kodi addon. In the fenlight settings you can add a provider which is a service that provides the links to content and hosts it on fast servers. Real-debrid is the service I use it's very cheap. Once setup you can search using your remote for anything you wanna watch and it will show you all the links available for what you're looking for. Most movies and TV shows have multiple options and nearly everything these days is immediately available in very high quality 4k. When an episode finishes then the next one is immediately available to stream next. All not unlike netflix etc. There are many ways to achieve the same result but I've found this setup the most reliable. I've never not immediately found the thing I want to watch, and it's very easy to navigate with TV remote once it's setup.

I had a lad in Glasgow, he had a few hundred subscribers. He sold his business to a larger group. They've a few different subs, and they have their own app.

I just use the sub through the Supa Legacy app on the Apple box, works really well. Approx €40-50 per year!

This is the way if you want TV channels. We've totally given up on using TV that way and just watch a particular movie or series we are interested in. Our kids don't really understand what a TV channel is lol.

My provider pulled the plug as he was getting paranoid about the cease and desist letters. Found another provider who has more or less same as last one. Don't doubt there will be a few big prosecutions this year by FACT.

I was speaking to "tech" guy, he said they were targeting people who were overtly offering services through FB, D*neDe*l etc. and providing their contact details through the ads.

It seems to me that there are a fairly small number of very large service suppliers who sell packages of these services to resellers. It seems to be the resellers who are being targeted by the recent clampdown. These guys are the easy targets because they need to find new end users so have to make themselves visible to some extent. The problem is it's very very easy to become a reseller so it becomes a cat and mouse of one being taken down and another popping up. The need to go after the big boys who are actually creating these streams.

I've used these services in the past, but I've always found them unreliable, low quality (=1080p), buffered at peak times, EPG was sometimes missing or incorrect, and channels appear and disappear. Even when they seemed reliable they didn't last long.

No sky sports no, but we don't watch that in this house. There are other apps for that but I've never used. The only sports we watch can be seen on RTEplayer/BBC IPlayer/ITVX/Virgin so can be streamed for free with a VPN.

There are TV addons you can download in Kodi such as TVOne111 which have live TV streams such as Sxy Spxrts

Alicante Spain, and Cork City Ireland

I remember when Cork Multi Channel was the only dodgy Black Box on town. It may have been called South Coast TV before that.

Some of them got jobs on RTE eventually.

Just follow a guide. You don't need to open the box or anything. Find out which version you have and Google it.
