"Even now, at a set and 5-1 down in the last game of her career, the legend grows"
John McEnroe commentating on Serena Williams last match when she refused to quit one point earlier than she absolutely had to. Never ever give up! |

Do you take this woman to be your wife, to live together in (holy) matrimony, to love her, to honor her, to comfort her, and to keep her in sickness and in health, forsaking all others, for as long as you both shall live

"Its better then a slap on the belly with a wet fish."
Someone I was on the phone to ended my call with this saying today. Never heard it before, she was like, like the old Irish saying...
Very funny. |

I wouldn’t say changed me but it I liked it though it’s a touch poignant…
“Have you ever been in love? Horrible, isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses.
You build up this whole armor, for years, so nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life…
You give them a piece of you. They don't ask for it. They do something dumb one day like kiss you, or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so a simple phrase like "maybe we should just be friends" or "how very perceptive" turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart.
It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a body-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. Nothing should be able to do that. Especially not love. I hate love”

"Absolutely nothing matters at all. The world is still just a speck of dust flying through the void and all of your hopes, dreams, fears, loves and indignities will not change that and will end in darkness. Now, what are you going to do today?" |

After a life changing diagnosis a few years ago I came across an inspirational quote that still makes me well up when I think of it. " You don't know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have!" That really struck a chord and gave me the extra edge I needed at that time. |

"It is what it is. "
I dislike this. I feel like it’s used all too often and all too soon as a cop out for not engaging in the topic/discussion. Or even worse, a way of absolving agency or not acknowledging accountability.
There is a time and a place for it of course but it is used in bad faith frequently.
Anyway, I’m real fun at parties too! |

I get where you're coming from, and too often its a lazy cop-out.
But sometimes, things are out of your control and you just have to get on with it!...control the controlables! |

Nobody gives a fuck about you.
Obviously your family and friends do but the people you meet out in the big bad world don’t so why do you care what they think.
Also, peoples opinions of you are none of your business. |

My Dad's was always Look after yourself and the rest will look after itself.
His other favourite, when asked how he was, would be Ah sure I get no money for complaining.
I must look up the family history for any Jewish/ Scottish/Cavan ancestry |

"
Two from an apprenticeship
Measure twice and cut once
Its easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission "
Another one from my apprenticeship.
Always think of the man that will be working on this after you. Because someday you will be that man. |

So true, it's a pity that not all apprentices receive or heed this advice #foreverfixingfuckups |

"Live laugh love
It changed me from being happy to wanting to vomit
"
This! And unfortunately that is the shite our kids are expected to do.
I resonate with alot of the great advice above.
But my mantra right now is control what you can. And let everything else go. What's for you, won't pass you |

“There’s nothing good that doesn’t have a bit of hair on it….”
My mother’s response when as kids one of us would complain about a bit of mold on their bread…. Takes on a whole new meaning nowadays |

"It's better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you are a fool than opening it and removing all the doubt."
on the contrary to this, he who asks a question may seem like a fool , he who doesn't ask a question will remain a fool |
