I see RTE won't have the expense of hosting the Eurovision next year. Disappointing show tonight, at least some options that aren't your normal Irish entry but time will tell.
Anyone else watching it? Thoughts? Kielty doing a good job at least. |

"I thought there was a very kink element to the winner.
Likely to go down well with the Europeans "
She comes across as somewhat unhinged in interviews though. Maybe she's on a spectrum or something, who knows. I can't see it coming any way close to winning it though. |

Eurovision had changed way too much.
I'm all for going with the times, but I grew up with the tradition of watching this in Germany, and they should have at least kept the concept that the songs were kind of secret till on the night.
With the songs out in the public domain in advance, you'll already hear in the press and according to the bookies who are the favourites. Makes it less interesting to me. |

I thought Bambi was very good. Can't believe another boy band who came second.
Think she will do well and gets us into final.
If we win it, better let virgin media host it, after rte the musical report |

"I actually really like Bambi, unusual yes but a really good voice, show person and very eye catching "
Couldn't agree more. Chorus is catchy as hell. Amazing how people can't get past the fashion visual. When punks came out first the bores all had a problem with them too. |

Didn't watch the show. Caught the performance on twitter this morning and thought it was interesting. Much better then the usual mundane crap that's been sent to it in past years. Something different to shake things up. Will go down well in Europe I think. |

Not to get political and I really want the best for whoever is representing us but I feel we should follow in the footsteps steps of some other countries that have dropped out as a form of boycott/protest this year due to one participating country's.... Recent actions |

I absolutely adore Bambi, loved everything about it,really different and fresh.
Why should we boycott it,let Israel get the reception it deserves, we can't be pulling out of stuff all the time, we need to also show up |

Watched the entry online, eyecatching performance and very theatrical, terrible singing voice unfortunately.
Very Eurovision though
I also agree with the boycotting comments, particularly in view of Israel's response to the ICJ order. |

I think it's an excellent performance for the Eurovision, certainly different, contemporary and eye catchy. (I wouldn't listen to the song in my four walls though)
Yup a boycott would be strong, pity the Dáil vote didn't back South Africa’s genocide case against Israel.

A boycott should happen but it won't. I don't understand why they are in it when Russia got canned for invading Ukraine. Double standards |

Racism is at play here Palestinian children’s pain and suffering is not as important as white children. There is also the uncomfortable truth that Europe is afraid to condemn Israel because of the holocaust.
Ireland should boycott more than the Eurovision it should boycott all Israel products.

I think it's more about the alliances to be honest...Europe and America traditionally V Russia, and America is pro-Isreal ... These are the war games that cause the double standards and fence-sitting. |

Nothing against Bambi, I just don't like that particular song. But I do wish her all the best of luck!
However I think the approach of a very wild and different act is the right idea. The standard soft "my lovely horse" approach doesn't work anymore. |

This act won't even come close to qualifying for the final.
At least with a 'my lovely horse' entry we could still be proud that we would be sending a talented song writer or singer instead of a circus act |

I think people need to understand that the sound engineers in RTE and especially on the late late are the worst in the business...
The late late is the only show that I actually advise people to mime on. Simply because no matter how well you perform, the sound engineers of RTE will find a way to make you sound shit |

I find it hard to understand how those songs on Friday nights ‘Late Late’ were the best of All Ireland.
Having said that, the ‘winner’, or should I say, the entry chosen to represent Ireland was so lame! One of the judges commented that an entry nowadays has to be unique and not similar to previous songs. Although our chosen entry seemed a little on the freaky side, even ‘unique’, but it also sounded like a weaker version of Hatari, the Iceland entry in 2019…
Ok, so we are Eurovision nerds |

I looked up that Icelandic entry and I get the comparison. I think that track might be better than our entry this year, mind you they each have something.
Funny to think that Iceland followed that up the next year with a song about babies (that was Robb*d!) |

Its fine....its not another bland song that gets sent over to fail to make the final
Depending on the stage show and presentation around her I think it could actally make the final

Do you mean specifically in the context of the Eurovision?
I'd say people that are generally negative craic, never want to see anything new or different and will nit pick a fight where ever they can find one under the guise of 'patriotism' and 'traditional values'.
Mostly just a bag of dicks though. |

Dont normally have time for Paul Murphy but he's dead right this time
He didn't slander anyone
He said they were protesting at the buildings and a few days later they went on fire
Pepper shared a video of him inside the pub in ringsend telling the owner he'd be back and shouting at him
Then yesterday pepper was found to be a landlord with 3 houses making 7200 a month from non national according to his own social media

Wasn't slander. He said the men mentioned were far right activists that were at the buildings at burnt down days before they were burnt down. This part is true. Also Mr pepper had no issue giving an interview to a newspaper at the weekend labelling him fat right.
Pepper is a hypocrite anyways as bog mentioned. Screaming in Paul face today that he wasn't a landlord after being caught saying he is. As Paul said he's either a landlord or a liar. Funny how many are hypocrites though. A bit like the lads that run down TS/TVs on here but no problem having sex with them in private.
A lot of people have long memories. |

Yes! haha
(Bottom of this thread went VERY different to the top, yikes!)
I'm a bit of a Eurovision fan. Love to go to one of the live public showings in a bar or venue each year.
The backlash has made me defend the song all the more! Especially is a priest is involved!
Ireland has only qualified for the finals once in the last decade and we haven't made the top 5 since the 90s. I think we needed a departure from the wholesome little diddies we keep sending.
I think this song has a better chance of reaching the finals. To me it has a bit of a Billie Eilish vibe. The industrial beats make sense if you look at the the success of Finland's entry last year.
A lot of it comes down to the stage presentation though. It's the one area we always under deliver on. Eurovision puts a ton of work into their stage, screens, lights and cameras. Last years entry looked like we planned none of that, and just left if down to the crew to improvise something.
When you compare that to the top ranked songs - they all look like music videos. very precise and planned our visuals, lights and use of cameras.
So Ireland's success will depend a lot on how good we make the song LOOK in the broadcast.
I don't think it would win, but we could hope to maybe not be last if we do a good job! |
