If I was to organise a social, that's how I'd do it

It's hard to chat to people at the larger socials, their attraction for us has waned as a result

"Has anyone done speed dating?"

I actually had a long relationship many years ago that I met through speed dating. I don't hear of it happening as much nowadays.

The Kingdom

Did it a few times, always been disappointed. Many times people will not stop talking and end up eating your time to talk to the next person and the person you were chatting with is now talking to the next person.

All in all poor organization in all I have gone to.

Excellent idea.

Bumble did have a speed dating thing where you chatted a person for 3 mins then move on to another possible match. After the 3 mins ended you selected yes or no. If both parties said yes then you matched after speed dating ended about 1 hour.

Then you get to see their name and picture before that it’s just a blank screen with name hidden bar for the first letter.

Was fun.

somewhere

Was at a restaurant fab social a few years ago

Tables had numbers on them

You picked a ticket going in from a bowl and sat at that numbered table to speak to people that you might not know

It was buffet type indian food

After every course you picked another ticket and moved tables to speak to more people that you didn't know

Great fun and we all went to the pub afterwards

Some went back to a house for a bit of a party

If someone organised such an event they would have to decide who it was open too as not everyone is after the same 'thing' (for want of a better term). What I mean is, couples only? Singles only? Etc etc

Think such an event would be a success for fab members … just need some dedicated people to organise same …

You'd need to put a bit of thought into it alright.

Absolutely, if you have a venue in mind?

You'd need a completely private venue where the owners were aware. There are event organisers who already have this type of setup. Maybe they will gain inspiration from this thread

There's a lot of potential there.

I think a big factor for many people (who aren't single men) is being afraid to "lead someone on" and then having a potentially awkward interaction later.

You end up feeling less open to chatting or meeting with people you aren't sure abut. despite the fact people say "we're all here for one thing" It's good to have lots of opportunity to talk to others without any expectation of sex.

South KK

No experience of it from a romantic perspective but last year a new project was kicking off in work and the leaders organised speed ‘getting to know you’ as there were so many new people on the team.

Probably about 50 people and it worked really well. Share a fact about yourself and chat for 2 mins and move on.

Got to know the new people better and found out something interesting about people I already knew.

Hey at worst you have to talk to someone for a few minutes..

Even if you not interested in them it's only a few minutes

Good way to get to know people
