Similar to facepics I think they should be available to request if a meeting is on the cards rather than in your face immediately.. but it's personal preference.

We've never been asked for a pic, or for any size info. (Our play pals have been very pleased with the package when they did unwrap it)

Himself keeps a nice picture in our friends-only photos if anyone requests it though.
