I don't think ever worked on Christmas day. The places I worked were closed usually. I do remember a long time ago my old boss trying to organise a crew including me to do a job on Christmas day (the place was closed) and when I explained how much it would cost him just with the wages you could see his mind ticking over trying to justify paying nearly 200 quid a hour to his bosses |

All my other jobs, would be closed for the Christmas. For a week or more depending on the dates. The job I've now, it's just the 3 day's(depending on the dates) off & back to work, like normal again. Thankfully I've that week off, this year. It'll be my last Christmas with them, as changing job's, sometime next year(THANK GOD). |

Sure you've no santa in your house so you come into work and let the families be together
Have been off 5 times in 25 years due to this. No kids so need to let parents off, decent thing to do in fairness

That happens a lot and to be honest it gets annoying year after year. If you do a job that you know people have to work Christmas and other holidays then you know you might be caught for it,people without children have a life as well and are just as entitled to time off at Christmas as anyone else. I don't mind doing my fair share and yes I'm working this Christmas day and over most of Christmas and new year. But on the rare year I get a Christmas day off I get people trying to guilt me into working it just because I don't have children and it gets frustrating.I have family I would like to spend the day with as well. Especially when you know the same people do the same thing every year. Young children I understand and I have swopped for people on plenty of occasions but once your kids are more grown up I think it's presumptuous and unfair to try and guilt others into it. |

I work for a 24hr service so we are open over Christmas etc. My manager is quite fair and you take it year about whether you've kids or not. I imagine that in some places that isnt the case.
I think the notion that people with kids should get preference for Christmas day off is wild, I dont have children but I do have family I like to spend the day with. I worked it last year and had Boxing day off, so I'm the opposite shift this year.
Same goes for new year, it alternates each year. That said if people want to swap they will allow it. |

My nephew was told he had to work because the people with families needed the time off
