It should be part of the driving test instead of that stupid reversing around corners carry on that you'll never use.
I'm terrible at it too. Won't even attempt unless I've acres of space. |

It is. When I was passing my test I had to parallel park. |

"Seriously, why can't women do parallel parking. Bit of Austin Powers in them? "
I think this is wrong and must not be generalised i know a few girls who are great parallel parking… better than me … and i am driving for like 15 yrs now … so its just the one you have seen might not be proficient at it… |

It wasn't parallel parking that Austin Powers couldn't do, it was a 3 point turn.
I am terrible at it, I generally get Gemma to do it.
You dont do it in the test, you do crazy reverse around the corner instead. What sort of lunatic would do that? |

It’s just practice knowing when to lock the wheels hard to the left or right. Before long it will be an unnecessary skill like having the ability to spell. |

Don't think you can generalize it like that. There's also very little need for it nowadays. Can't even remember the last time I had to parallel park anywhere. I am probably shite at it now if I had to parallel park.
And as crazy as it is, reversing around a bend is a skill I need quite often living in the countryside. Especially, if you want to stay out if the ditch |

"Seriously, why can't women do parallel parking. Bit of Austin Powers in them? I can do that and reversing no problem. Some guys aren't that great...."
Totally agree about the men not being able to drive but also you have some female SUV drivers who are clueless. I drive all day every day 5 days a week and I see the good and the bad every day. It's the guidance and confidence that you are given starting off as a young driver that makes all the difference. No problem parking btw |

Maybe in the North but isn't here or wasn't about 7/8 years ago anyway! |

There's a measured psychological effect called stereotype threat. Fear of conforming to a negative stereotype about your group makes you perform worse.
So plenty of women avoid parallel parking because of this, and never improve.
I don't have a full license but can actually parallel park and reverse really well, It used to be the one thing I practised again and again in my parents car. |

The issue could also be that a lot of young people get taught by their parents rather than actual driving instructor.
My instructor had me parallel parking at every single lesson multiple times... and I had many... MANY lessons as due to childhood trauma learning to drive was somewhat of an issue for me |

The amount of eejits that just abandon ship at the service stations! Even if theres clearly marked out spaces, they park the wrong way on them!

My ex was really good at it - much better than I am, actually.
That said, a lot of it is practice: I got better at it during the pandemic because I used park on the street and sip my coffee in the car, where I could see other humans... |

On the topic of reversing around corners in a driving test. I think the idea is, every time you reverse out if a drive way, or reverse into a car park, you are basically using the same spacial awareness skills. Don't know why they don't just test you on that though. |

You can parallel park alongside me anytime |

I can parallel park "
I'm great at parallel parking but I have to stop for a few seconds before moving forward and then reversing into the space.... I have to stop for those few seconds because otherwise the cars behind me keep moving and then not allowing me any room to reverse in! |

I'm usually pretty good at it! Once in a blue moon I get it wrong - like today at school pick up, morto "
I heard you did quite a good job actually |

I still remember the time I parallel parked a 6 berth Maui campervan in a tight spot on a Wellington Street in New Zealand! 2009 was the year...remember it like it was yesterday!
One of my favourite parking manoeuvres to be fair. |
