Chainsaw is one of the most dangerous tools.
Worked with a group of lumberjacks once, the amount of safety gear they put on was unreal, yet and still though they all had their close experiences and scars...
So when amateurs get their chainsaws out, I'm getting half dizzy just thinking of it, normally no safety gear involved, far less experienced etc.
Most common and most dangerous is a chainsaw kickback, so let your toe slip be a warning.

Always abit freaked out around a chainsaw, for some reason. Never used 1,have heard of stories like yours OP in the past alright.
As a young teenager, I was cutting up timber with a bushman saw. It hopped out & cut me on the side of the finger, of my right hand. That beginning part of the figure after the knuckle. It was about an inch or so long, it seemed to have gone into the bone, with the skin just hanging there, away from the bone. Funny thing was it wasn't sore, far from it really, even doe I freaked out, after it happened. Only have a scare to remind me about it now alright.
Cut the side of my figure on the left hand with a Stanley knife, now that was sore. It was the top of the figure at an angle near the side of the nail. It happened at work. Had to keep the figure straight up in the air, to keep the pain at bay. I stayed off work for at least a week if two cause of it. Despite what the boss though of it, at the time.
Always better safe, than sorry around different tools & machines. Despite how often we use them.
Look after yourself OP. I'm sure you'll be pampered now over the weekend. |

Not been rude or smart or looking to stir the pot but the fact you didn’t even have steel toes on let alone any other safety gear shows that you probably shouldn’t be anywhere next to near a chainsaw, got get some professional tutoring before you end up half the person you are, or worse ! |

Knew a tree surgeon in London years ago now but he was up high trimming down large branches in a harness. Saw kicked and hit him in the forehead and continued to run down his face nose to chin, it cut him open like a surgeon would. Not good!
Wear safety gear always, don’t take chances there is only one winner with a chainsaw |

"Good friend of mine has a hole in his skull from a snapped chainsaw blade whipping back.
You can push your finger right into his head still."
There are so many injuries with chainsaws it's unbelievable, the danger is any muppet can buy a chainsaw and using 1 with no training PPE or experience is suicide |
